Re: reality...
Page was out on the ice but Krelove was his D partner (one of our worst defenseman). Page with Bailen/(sometimes Shimdt) are the top pair. At the game I thought it may have been deflected too, but after seeing the game on the NHL network Sunday afternoon I saw that Spratt was screened by a few of our guys- two of the freshman collasped into the slot area despite no Mich players in the slot, Langlais then ripped a shot from the ungaurded point.TheKa wrote:SBK- absolutely! I was saying all of those things last night during and after the game and I had just come on here to type them all, but you summed it all up. So, get out of my head! HAHA!
One of the things that I disagree with though...At least PART of the top defensive pairing were on the ice when Michigan scored. At least from the angle that I was sitting at, it actually looked like Michigan's goal went in off one of those guys...I'd have to watch the tape to know for sure and I don't have the NHL channel so I may never know...
On the subject of the Michigan fans...yes, they are arrogant snobs, they always have been. The ones sitting behind me knew little or nothing about hockey. Most of them were remarking on how different the Falcons looked compared to Friday, they were astonished. That, I agree with them on. The height of their arrogance showed through when our alma matter was playing after the game, they began to sing their fight song. Disgusting. And I let them know how I felt about it...
I agree with everyone on here Michigan Fans suck! we all know that. The cheering during the alma matter was one of the rudest things I've seen fans do. I was happy when a few of our fans turned and yelled to them to "shut the F up!"
I was also astonished with the difference in play. On Friday I thought maybe they were making changes etc. to turn things around to create an average season. But Saturday BG went right back to hockey hell. Friday's game showed what happens with strong offense and solid defense combined with great goaltending. For most of the season we've seen one or the other: a defense oriented team that looses close games due to not scoring; or a team with great offense that leaves the goalie out in the open and loose a high scoring game.
Believe me, I KNOW that Page and Bailen are the top D pair. Paluch seems to think that Krelove is up there with him given the amount of playing time he is given. I disagree...the stats and 32 years of hockey knowledge seem to make my point correct, but I'm not getting paid to make those decisions. Schmidt seems to be trying at times, but he's normally paired with Krelove and that makes him have to play two positions instead of one... The only time I'm truly nervous about the D is when Krelove is on the ice...specifically on the PK. You know that a turnover is about to happen.
I'm glad to hear that it wasn't a deflected goal. I was worried it had gone in off Page. I did notice us closing down into the slot...and I thought at the time "Where in the hell are they going??"
GO FALCONS!

officiating
Great work getting the W at Yost. Wish that we could have accomplished that when I was playing. We were up big at Yost after the 1st period, but found a way to lose the game when I was playing. Regarding the officials... I am fully aware of how it goes. Michigan is the CCHA's team. I watched Saturday's game on NHL Network, and the officiating was terrible... as I expected. They didn't want to see the CCHA's team get sweeped by last place BG. The officiating was terrible... but not as bad as it was when we were playing Mich in the first round of the playoffs my frosh year, at Yost. Nice split boys.

Negativity
We get a split with Michigan and and the majority of the board is b*tching. What fun to read.
How about looking at the fact that the rest of schedule is pretty light on competition (except Miami, who has been slumping a bit lately)? Maybe we can turn this season around and get on a roll for the playoffs.

It's not just a split with Michigan. It's more of the same old same old. Michigan was begging to be swept.rood wrote:We get a split with Michigan and and the majority of the board is b*tching. What fun to read.

Cause we can all use a good laugh read down towards the bottom of the page.

Real classy group. "...singing and chanting as is customary after wins..." I don't give a rats AZZ what your customs are, you better not sing and chant that crap over my alma mater, or my customs may quickly become making sure they can't sing and chant.
Yeah right girl!

I totally agree 100%, Krelove is a whole other problem besides this threat!! He's slow, has poor puck handling skills, poor defensive placement (most of the time), lack of one ice awareness, and he isn't very physical. I know we're short on D but he's getting too much special teams time. The latest big mistake was last weekend-one OSU goal last Saturday was 100% his fault!TheKa wrote:Believe me, I KNOW that Page and Bailen are the top D pair. "Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

no, we're short on D for the rest of the season, possibly less special teams time, but that may be hard too since BG/college hockey has a lot of penalties. I'm hoping we get more defensemen like Bailen in the next season or two!ziggy z wrote:so, sbk, what your saying is we should roll 3 D instead of 4?
The two defensemen we have committed for next season (Ian Ruel and Robert Shea) are both low-scoring, heavy-hitting defensemen. I don't know about Mike Miller. Heisenberg has him listed as an '09 recruit but he hasn't made it out of major midget yet so I would think he would hold off a year.
Is Petiot coming back next year?

I have been thinking the same thing. Many of us (myself included) have been critical of SP for playing such a short bench...now you're on him for allowing Krelove to play. Bailen and Sinkewich both spent good portions of Saturdays game in the box, WWYD (sbk and Erica)?ziggy z wrote:so, sbk, what your saying is we should roll 3 D instead of 4?
Du hockey comme dans le temps!
