Michigan series
An interesting point that nobody has mentioned...did you notice that once UM scored the lopsided penalty calls against BG almost disappeared? From that point on they were almost even between the two teams. As far as BG playing poorly...how are they to score when they're in the box for half of the game? We were outshot the first 2 periods for that very reason, but did you notice that we outshot them in the third when the penalties were even? My guess is, had we evened it up, the penalties would have started back up.
Red - "Hello? CCHA office? This is Red Berenson. I'd like you to make sure that BG doesn't beat us again tonight! Last night was a travesty and I can't believe that you guys let that happen!"
CCHA office - "Calm down, Red. We won't let that happen tonight. We'll keep them in the box until you go ahead."
Red - "That should work. Thanks!"

Freddie- As far as Krelove goes, there isn't much that could've been done about his playing time on Saturday with the Bailen Misconduct and Sinkewich being whistled for each breath he took but my comments are more related to the season as a whole to this point. The D corps is very thin as we well know and there's not much that can be done, BUT prior to the defection of Maxwell, the amount of playing time he got was downright idiotic for all of the reasons that SBK noted. However, at this point, he wouldn't see the amount of time he does (there are 2 other guys you could pair with Schmidt) or the amount of time he sees especially on the PK would be dramatically decreased. I guess that's the only solution I have at this point, given out situation.

this is foolish. if you actually knew red or had ever talked to him, you'd realize he's a pretty noble guy. there are plenty of things not to be respected about michigan's hockey program (i.e. those fans on saturday night), but red berenson is not among them.

It was meant to be foolish. The "coincidence" of the penalties, however, I'm not so sure about. How do they suddenly stop after the goal? Did BG suddenly change their play? If anything they were playing with more intensity. I have nothing against Red, he's obviously done a lot for the program because prior to his being there, they were nothing special. However I have my doubts about the nobility of the CCHA front office....bghockeyfan wrote:this is foolish. if you actually knew red or had ever talked to him, you'd realize he's a pretty noble guy. there are plenty of things not to be respected about michigan's hockey program (i.e. those fans on saturday night), but red berenson is not among them.BGFan wrote:

If it makes you feel better, I apologize for the latter part of my post, but trust me when I say that it was totally tongue in cheek.

Why would someone be "loosing" respect for this forum, because we speak the truth ? It was a good weekend against Michigan and I praise the guys for their hard work. However one weekend or even a "turnaround" in the second half against "lesser" competition doesn't change the facts of 7 long
losing and uneventful seasons under the current coach. Noone is "headhunting", just doing their homework and having knowledge of the game and using common sense. By the way, if BG is a player in the CCHA
maybe they too would get a few extra calls. Do your job GC.

He seemed to be taking offense to the calling out of the refs. I wouldn't want to be a referee in hockey, to be sure, but when they're bad, they're bad.MooneyRich86 wrote:Why would someone be "loosing" respect for this forum, because we speak the truth ? I know I wasn't the only one questioning why a game being broadcast on a tape delay had "media timeouts." Anybody notice the timing of the "timeouts?" Everyone of them in the first two periods occurred with the faceoff in the BG zone. To me, there also didn't seem to be a set schedule for them...like 5, 10, 15 minute mark. I also noticed in the third period after an icing call on Michigan the ref turned to the penalty box and waved his hands like he was telling them not to take a timeout. It wasn't towards the Michigan bench telling them they couldn't change, that's for sure. The very next whistle there was a media timeout, and then another only about 2 minutes later.BGFan wrote: It was meant to be foolish. Call me a conspiracy theorist or whatever you want. Just things I noticed about the game.

The media timeouts were because the game was a live broadcast in Canada. Tape Delay in the US because NHL Network in the US shows HNIC.pdt1081 wrote:I know I wasn't the only one questioning why a game being broadcast on a tape delay had "media timeouts." The media timeouts were bad, College hockey should look into the rules the NHL has this season about no media timeout on an icing call. Also penalties should be added to that, In at least one case: just a BG was going on the 11% powerplay a media timeout was called sucking the momentum from BG and giving the Michigan pk and goaltender time to rest.

Supposed to occur at the first stoppage in play after 16, 12 and 8.
NOT supposed to occur if that first stoppage in play is for a power play.
Now how well this is adhered to varies greatly depending upon the staffing at the area and the officials working the game.
Ticket Manager JLA - "Hello? CCHA office? I'm with the ticket office at Joe Louis Arena
CCHA office - Oh yes we have been expecting your call
JLA - You know that we would really appreciate having U of M and MSU in the finals of the CCHA Playoffs
CCHA office - As every year!?
JLA - well it appears that MSU is currently down in the standings, they may need some help getting home ice in the playoffs
CCHA office - not to worry, we have scheduled Stafford to work all the remaining MSU games. And not to worry, as always we will make sure that Red and Rick will be in the final four.
JLA - thank you very much, I saw what he did for Michigan last weekend.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Just because I like to see it.It was Michigan's lowest scoring output for a weekend series in Berenson's coaching career.
