Personally speaking, I know that there were more than a few people who usually support Falcon athletics who had classes and meetings at gametime last night.

Tuesday at 7:00 just isn't a convenient time when students have classes 6-9 or meetings that start at 8 (just to name two, Mortar Board and SAC both hold meetings Tuesday nights). Same will go for Wednesday night games in the future, seeing as Dance Marathon holds a lot of meetings on Wednesday nights.

I feel like the old man telling his "walking uphill in the snow" story, but man are students today pansies or WHAT??

They have the giant signs on the outside of the building. There are FREE schedule cards and posters available at every game. There's a FREE campus newspaper available in six locations in every building. Computers are everywhere, including in a large percentage of the student population's pockets. It's a two-way street and I think the university has done tons to let people know what's going on.

As for the text message idea, I think the idea of using the emergency alert system for marketing athletic events is a bad idea. That system needs to be kept for emergencies only. I don't care WHAT other schools use it for. Now, if they wanted to let students apply to be on an "Athletics" list, that's fine. But if they're going to make that effort, why don't they just make the effort to read a schedule?

Bottom line is that If we don't win, people aren't going to show up. We're not winning and haven't been winning in really anything aside from womens basketball, so there fore our attendance for everything has suffered.

Thank you Sville for bringing the thread back on point.

Rule #1 - WIN

If you violate rule #1, especially for an extended period of time, your attendance is going to suck. Period.

Regardless of what should or shouldn't be done.. whatever the heck the current "marketing strategy" is clearly is not working...

How hard is it to hang cheap flyers on fraternity house doors and in dorm hallways that say "Men's Basketball VS Miama Tuesday 7PM Anderson Arena.. 1/2 off hot dogs for students" or some crap like that..

College Students are forgetfull.. they drink and have other habits similar to those of Snoop Dogg.. a little reminder here and there could go a long way..

I don't care what marketing decides to do.... as long as its SOMETHING

I'll agree that the average student doesn't know when a team is playing. Do they care? I don't know. Id like to think they do. But i believe some posters and emails would be great.....i mean they are virtually FREE marketing!! Even if they dont work you lose nothing. And certainly some bigger names than Wayne State and Towson at home will boost attendance. There is just so many possibilities for better marketing here. Glad thats my major :D

Also, if you have any cool marketing ideas for BG sports in general, there is a thread discussing it http://www.ay-ziggy-zoomba.com/phpBB2/v ... hp?t=22576

First of all, love the pic Matty B.

Second of all, I was an RA (worst year ever) and they give the RAs fliers to post. Never did i get anyhting for any sport besides those big orange posters that have the entire schedule on it. And those get torn down by some drunk clown the first weekend after you put them up.

If its in the RAs mailbox, they'l post. BUt the bottom line is they don't put any other fliers or anything besides the one big one. I guess they assume thats enough, and it's not.

But if they're adults (and they always scream and yell they want to be treated like adults), then why do we have to tell them over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again about game dates and times?
