Supply and demand.

Post by NWLB »

If all is taken at face value then:

There are 28 bowl games as of this year. The Toronto Bowl is all but set for 2005 pitting the Mid-American Conference against the Big East. There is word that the group which is working to setup the bowl in Indianapolis (in the RCA Dome) is likely to present for 2006, also featuring the MAC and another conference. (The Independence Bowl is said to be considering the MAC to pitt against the current CUSA team.

The Silicon Valley Bowl is most likely going to lose certification when it doesn't hit the attendance requirements, which frees up two teams.

Overall there will be a tight supply of teams to meet the Bowl Demand for them.

If the NCAA does vote for a 12 game slate, that tightness in the market will end.

So we could see 32 to 34 bowls within five years, with five MAC bids.

FYI: I formed College Bowl Games on Google Groups if anybody is interested. Its has about four people on it. If anybody wants to join it, lend your voice, every little bit helps!

It isn't intended to suck traffic away, and is open to all bowls and conferences. However I figure any bit of attention a MAC/BGSU friendly crowd might bring, is always a good thing. Besides, liberal sprinkles of MAC/BGSU friendly links will get "crawled" by Google, and that helps.

You don't have to belong to Google, though its cool and I encourage it. I can add you myself if you drop a line to the list owner.

NWLB:

Good move. I think this debate will be very fluid over the next several months. The MAC has a lot to gain, and as I said in my last blog post, how well the MAC does with tie ins will go a long way toward solidifying Chryst's legacy.
