There are some good ideas running around here, but I am going to play Devils advocate for a little bit. I LOVE Anderson Arena and the atmosphere is has, when it is full and/or loud. I am going to advocate for a new arena though. We keep talking about attandance isues and how we need to fill AA before we can justify a new arena, where here it goes. A new arena will be a major boost for attandance. Not because it is a new building or anything like that. It is because you will be able to get to the stinking think. The university has already determined where the parking garages (yes that is plural) will go and the area behind AA is not one of those locations. If people can get to the arena in a reasonable amount of time, not have to walk between students trying to get to their evening classes, and have decent lighting with paved lots they will come out. I guarantee if a new arena is built by the stadium, and I personally want it attached to Doyt, those lots out there will be paved. It can be justified because those lots will get more use than just 5 or 6 saturdays for football. I also do not think we are going to see a monster built either. I would be amazed if the new arena was 10,000 seats. I think we are looking at between 7500 and 8000 seats. It will be enough but not to much for basketball. It will be a nice concert venue depending on how they configure the seats, and I have ideas about that as well. And it will be great for commencement. A new arena is not just an athletic thing, this will help the entire university and it should be marketed as such. I love AA and it needs to stand forever, but this program needs to look to the future while remembering its past.

That's too big.

And if they try to turn a new building into a place that could host concerts, then it won't even be noisy.

Those are two huge strikes against in my mind.

bowling green will never be able to afford a new arena i think we need to be realistic.......it could take 10 years to get the SAC money

If it takes 10 years to raise 7 million dollars, our athletic department is looking in the wrong places for money.

One thing they should do is retire Nate Thurmonds number. Along with him being one of the best players ever in the game of basketball it would be kind of nice to actually have another banner in the rafters.

Yeah, he may not be in the rafters, but I can remember the ceremony where we retired Thurmond's number. He spoke at halftime and said that the only caveat was that if his son played at Bowling Green, he would be able to wear the number. Anyone else remember that night.

thurmond and komives should be retired now. maybe in a few years we could consider daniels, stacey, mcleod, etc. not every good, or even great, athete deserves have his or her number retired (although i sometimes think that someone forgot to tell that to the celtics).

Ok, that's good to hear. I didn't think it was retired because I didn't see a banner. I guess I should've done some research. But I'll blame it on that I didn't follow BG athletics until I was a freshman here (2001-2002).

This brings up an interesting point. It seems to me that the athletic department could do a much better job in making available information about Falcon athletics' history. I've spent most of the afternoon to this point searching for information to update the campus tour guide manual, looking for things like numbers of MAC and CCHA championships, Frozen Four Appearances, bowl game appearances, NCAA and NIT bids, etc., and found nothing. (I did other digging outside of our website and found most of what I wanted, although there's a blank page in the NCAA record book where the frozen four information should be. It even says "Enter Pages from Frozen Four Record Book Here" with nothing further.) It wouldn't take much, I shouldn't think, to compile quick historical facts, simply listed with each sport, and posted on the athletic department's web site. To me, it's important that we not only anxiouls look forward to athletic prowess, but also embrace our past success.

They could solve this by putting media guides online, I think.

Not sure why they don't. Maybe they figure no one would buy them?
