I thought I was reading poetry, but it didn't rhyme.

Poetry has to rhyme, right?

Yea, standing up equivocates being a fan!

Oh wait, it doesn't.

No, standing doesn't equate to being a fan but it does at least show some passion for the game you are watching especially when the team you are supposedly supporting is making a huge run after being down several points. I've seen dozens of people sitting on their azz looking as if they were watching Itzach Perlman play a violin solo at Carnegie Hall instead of an exciting basketball game. Yeah, there are times when we are beating the living crap out of some happless lesser team and its not appropriate to stand the whole time and yell at the top of your lungs, but that's not what I or maybe Dustin is getting at. Its the times when the crowd should be excited and rowdy and their just sitting there motionless and seemingly uninterested, making you wonder what was it that made them come in the first place. Just an observation mind you.

i agree that more students should be standing, but of the 7 people that were standing last game, i am pretty sure that only 3 were actually students and the people down there that aren't students act pretty embarrassingly...we need a designated student section, which there used to be, but let's face it, there is nothing labeled anymore so there isn't really a good place to stand as a student

There's a section labeled...the sign is right behind the band!

And who cares if people are standing or sitting. Hell, they showed up, that's better than the other 3000 that we could fit in there. The worst thing to do when you are complaining about attendance, is complain about the people who are there. What comes next...complaining that the team is sitting down when they are on the bench?

Amen to that. Students and alums were good, but that's about it.

Amen to that! The crowd noise that would generate if all the students were congregated in one area, the sense of belonging that would create ... :D
I have never been able to believe it at basketball games that there is no official student section. I know there's not really an official student section at football or hockey either, but in those two venues, the students pack in one area and it becomes essentially a student section. Nothing like that in Anderson and it's needed bad.

Players on the team SITTING on the bench? Not standing? Yell at them for sitting down before you yell at the rest of us!

spot on buddy, those people (who usually only show up at women's games) are also why I don't stand sometimes.

Why do we care about attendence and standing so much, hell attendence could be one person, with that person being me and I wouldn't care. I just want to hang out with my friends and watch the game, whether I be standing or not I don't care how many people are there or who is or isnt standing, I just care about watching the game, and really thats all that should matter, not who is standing and how many people are there

Honestly if a Pop Culture or some other bunch of classes just made it a project to go to a few basketball games and start a student section, we'd get one up and running in no time. If the section itself is bigger(than the 7 people we have down there now that no one really wants to be a part of), then students will start to congregate there on their own.

Get some original cheers going, make it fun, and people will start to go to the section on their own.

Honestly I don't think it's terrible that people sit for most of the game, but a student section probably will help get attendance up.

+1
I want to see the game and if that was such a great view they would sit the video crew up down there.

Hmm interesting idea. Anyone know someone in pop culture? That would be a great project/experiment and it would greatly benefit the student body. I'm more than willing to help with this. Any other students interested?
