NCAA Tournament 1st & 2nd Rounds In Cleveland!

Post by BGSU33 »

I was looking at the First and Second Round sites for this year's NCAA Tournament and noticed one of the sites is Cleveland State. As many times as I have watched the NCAA Tournament on TV, I have never been to an actual men's NCAA Tournament game in person. Have any of you gone before, or will be planning on going to this year's games at CSU? It would be awesome if BG went dancing this year, but since our last trip was 1968, I won't be holding my breath for us to get in this year (though I'll always keep my hopes up and fingers crossed). But I'd like to go no matter who is playing.

Anyway, I've started to look into tickets for the NCAA Tournament, and from the little bit I can find, tickets look very expensive, even for bad seats. I also know a lot of these events tend to "sell out," but if you watch them on TV, you always see empty seats for the early round games. I assume you can buy tickets through scalpers and people who's teams loses early and go home after a session. I'm just curious how some of you managed to get tickets if you went if you didn't buy them in advance?

Also, since moving to Virginia, I haven't been back to Ohio for the MAC Tournament since it moved to Cleveland. The last time I went to the MAC Tournament it was in Toledo in 1997. Are the all-tournament and single-game tickets packages pretty reasonable for the MAC Tournament?

I appreciate any help you call an give.

When I lived in North Carolina, we used to buy our tickets from the folks that were leaving and heading home thanks to a loss. We also used to stand outside of the arena and wait until a few moments after the start of a game and pick up the tickets for face value or less.

A friend of mine saw UNC in the championship game in New Orleans back in '92(?) and bought his ticket five minutes after the start of the game for $25. He was one happy UNC grad about two hours later :D

I got to do the first round maybe 4 or 5 years ago when it was at CSU. I have to say, it was the best basketball experience I've EVER had. I was lucky enough to have a friend who's dad was (is) a CSU season ticket holder and they got dibs on tickets. I bought a pair off of him. Went with a roomie one day and with my dad the next. NOTHING like it!! Get a room though if you're able. The commute from Elmore to the Gund is only about 90 minutes...but any more than that, I'm sure you'd want to stay in Cleveland.

If you can do it... DO IT!!!

Thanks for the info guys. That's exactly what I was considering trying to do if needed.

By the way, transfer2BGSU, I couldn't help but notice at the end of your post about the Notre Dame job. I'd like to let any one associated with the Fighting Irish administration that might stumble over here know, I'd be more than happy to be the head football coach at Notre Dame! And you can also feel free to fire me at anytime before my contract runs out, as long as I get my contracted wage. If you want me out after three years, three weeks, three days, three hours - I don't care - that's more cash than I'll make in probably my lifetime and I'll take the money and leave South Bend with nothing but a big fat smile on my face as I go back to buying season tickets at BG!

Not me. I now want to be the Director of Admissions at the University of Florida. I figure if they can pay a damn football coach $2 million a year for 7 years, they ought to be able to afford me

I bought CSU season tickets last year so I could purchase NCAA tickets. The all-session passes were $150 I think, which gets you 6 games.

Also, the games are played at the CSU Convocation Center, not at the Gund (MAC is at the Gund the week before- lots of hoops for me in those 2 weeks!).
You are right, 33, people whose teams lose generally sell their tickets afterwards, so you can get lucky.
Let me know if any of you are coming in to Cleveland for the MAC and/or NCAA. If I can help you out in any way, let me know.

rollalong94,

Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it! I might just have to keep it in mind come March. There's actually a good chance I may be moving back to Ohio in the next month or two. If I do end up back in Ohio, it will be in the Cleveland area. If that happens, I will no doubt be trying to attend both the MAC and NCAA Tournaments in Cleveland.
