Last year, Bowling Green went 6-6. The season started off well with a win at Pitt and a Pontiac Game-Changing Performance nomination for Tyler Sheehan on a 13 yard TD run. We had a huge crowd at the home opener against Minnesota (My least favorite team ever, even beating Toledo), but sadly we lost. We lost at Boise State as well, but kept it very close. In a game against eventual MAC champion Buffalo, we dropped a 20 point 4th quarter lead with the conference title on the line and lost in double OT. I was at that game in 15 degree weather with no coat on.

In terms of recent history, we were formerly coached by current Florida coach Urban Meyer, had a Heisman contender in Omar Jacobs, and hosted College Gameday against Northern Illinois.

Make sure to stop at tailgates. In terms of mid majors, I have never seen (or tasted) better.

If you do make it up for the game, make sure you stop by our tailgate for some great food, drinks and fun. We are a cool bunch.
This. We feed our guests quite well. We also drink (sometimes heavily), and generally have a great time. We may not be southern, but we usually show some pretty good hospitality, even to UT people!

well i must say i'm flattered by all the great hospitality i've received here, thank you very much! I knew about Omar Jacobs, he was a stud. where's he playing now?

I hope this game can stir up some sort of rivalry, i'd like to see our two programs continue a series for more than just 2 years. Next year, when yall return the game, I hope all of you will also come down to TROY to enjoy some true southern hospitality. we're very serious about our football at TROY. of course, we live in the shadow of the Imperialist forces of Alabama and Auburn, those bastards, but we make the best of it. They won't play us, so we always rag them about being chicken...which for Auburn is actually funny (they yell War Eagle as their "battle cry").
TROY, we OWN the Sun Belt.

So i've been wondering, what is the general perception of TROY among BG fans? I'm sure we're not the first team on their minds, but is there anything you all can tell me? I always love learning how we are viewed by other schools.

We know the feeling about living in the shadow of imperialist forces. Our campus is less than 3 hours drive from Michigan, OSU, and ND.

As to our perception of Troy? Personally I think they're darn good non BCS program. They are not on the level of a Boise or Utah, yet, in my mind. Still, it's a very good program, and it's come a long way pretty quickly. It hasn't been that long since you guys moved up to 1A has it?

Also back when I had time to play a lot of NCAA on PS2 I took Troy to a few national titles. I had built BG into a dynasty and that bored me, so I took over Troy and built them into a dynasty.

My first recollection of Troy is when they were still Troy State a few years ago. I remember Marshall opened with them and got beat and caught a lot of grief for that around these parts. Then the next week Troy State beat Missouri and everyone kind of stood up and took notice.

Troy strikes me as being a program on the rise. I would have anticipated a couple of easy W's against you guys a few years ago, but not any more. You folks are EXACTLY the kind of institution we whould be looking to establish an ongoing series with ....maybe not every year, but a nice home and home every five years could be fun.

I'm looking forward to seeing how we measure up

Omar Jacobs is currently playing for the Florence Phantoms in the American Indoor Football Association. Florence won the AIFA championship with him this season, and Jacobs was league MVP.

We know all about Imperialist forces here. We are right in the heart of Big 10 country. Basically in the middle of a triangle formed by Notre Dame, Michigan and Ohio State

I remember watching a Troy State game on ESPN a few years ago. Can't remember who it was against but yall weren't supposed to even have a chance, but came from behind and won. It was an awesome game. For that reason, I like Troy :D

I think playing Troy is one of those times, win or lose, where teams we go against later won't be sure of what to make of it. I like that, since Troy is a strong program and should be a good experience for the Falcons, however the game turns out. It should be a fine series and I'm glad we have it.

this fan base is hands down the nicest and most hospitable i have come across. i like to go to whatever mid-major team we're playing's fanboard and touch base. a lot of the time i get static. i want to thank you all.

it's great to hear that we have such a good reputation with your fans. that definitely puts a smile on my face.

I have another question. What do you all, and your fellow MAC fans for that matter, think of the Sun Belt Conference?

Friendly fans always get a warm welcome here, and I think any of your fellow Troy fans that venture to Bowling Green will find it a nice town to visit to boot.

I think MAC folks would fancy our conference as stronger, but without question the Sun Belt has made progress since its formation. A lot of folks in the MAC are wondering what has come of our own brand of football in recent years, so I doubt anybody will take any team coming out of the SB lightly.

By all means ask about travel, accommodations, local attractions, and most certainly food in the area, you won't lack for ample suggestions!

The only thing I know about the Sun Belt, aside from Troy's rise is that when you play W. Kentucky, watch your knees.

I remember we beat them in the battle of the Bowling Greens last year. I also know that Florida Atlantic is pretty good, with their QB Rusty something, i forget his last name

Also, to Trojan Delta Chi, if you take a look around our forum, we are sometimes brutal to each other, but we respect polite fans that don't come on and start a topic like "TOLEDO #1 I HATE BG!!!!!!!!!!11". I think you will find a similar courtesy at the actual games, where there is a mutual respect between fans

The only thing I know about the Sun Belt is that I for some reason call it the Valley of the Hidden Sun conference...not sure why.
