I've been noticing an unusual amount of articles, such as this one on uscho, another one a while ago on ccha.com, a photo here and there on bgsu websites, about Scott Paluch.
I don't normally buy into conspiracy theories, but I do wonder if there's a subtle PR plan.

I know that many of you on this Hockey section follow the team...and Paluch closely, but I thought this was a very well written and thoughtful article. Did it praise him too much? Maybe...but I thought it did a good job of telling the "public" how much work goes into coaching, no matter what sport it is. It seems that his biggest weakness is in the area of RECRUITING, the lifeblood of any program...Is this because of the antiquated ice arena? Or is his personality not suited for the recruiting end of things? To compare him to Jerry York perhaps is a bit over the top, but maybe not as crazy as it sounds since he DID play for York and had to be influenced by him. I only saw the Mich. game (the 1-0 loss) and I thought the kids played well and hard, similar to what the article said. But you can only go so far with limited talent, especially at this level. Perhaps we need to look to hire a "recruiting guru" as either the next head coach, OR as a special assistant.

I think these comments are spot on! A recruiting specialist would be able to sell the old ice arena to the players. Although the ice arena is old, the ice is one of the best in the CCHA: its hard and fast. The fans (especially when full) are right on top of you, its a fun atmosphere to play in.Class of 61 wrote:...It seems that his biggest weakness is in the area of RECRUITING, the lifeblood of any program...Is this because of the antiquated ice arena? I also agree about the article, I think Starman did an excellent job of showing what it's like for the coaches on gameday.
As to a recruiting specialist that is exactly why Paluch was hired. He did the recruiting for York and helped build those BC teams. Don't know what
happened once he returned to BG. I will honestly say I thought it was a great hire at the time by Paul Krebs but 7 years later it's time to move on.
