Hey guys what's up? Need a little help from you. What is there to do around Bowling Green? Looking at coming up Wednesday and Staying until Sunday. Me, my wife, and two girls ages 4 and 7. What hotels are close to the stadium? Any restaurants you would recommend? I know it's early, but we are making our plans now for football season, and any help would be appreciated.
Bowling Green is a very small town, and any hotel is close to the stadium, in fact, nearly all of them are just across the street.
You also mentioned restaurants. I take anyone who visits me here to Tony Packo's in Toledo (which is just 20-25 min away, straight up I-75), it's a great experience. I also personally like Easy Street Cafe on Main St. in BG. Very casual dining with a particularly healthy beer list if you're into that kind of thing like I am.
Some of the other folks with kids might be better equipped to tell you what to do in the area with a family. BG itself is the quintessential college town, so it always seems that a lot of the "attractions" in the city itself tend to be focused on bars and night clubs. But I am sure there is plenty to do for you to enjoy your stay here, if not in BG then within fairly short drives of here.

Some of the other "BG" food places to visit (from a student's standpoint) include Pollyeyes (try the stuffed breadsticks!) and Myles Pizza Pub. I'll have to second Easy Street Cafe as well, their buffalo burgers are amazing!
I think there's a topic regarding best "BG" food places over in the "Falcon Food" forum. If I find it, I'll post a link for ya unless someone else beats me to it.

If you like pizza, go to Myle's Pizza Pub. The best pizza I have ever tasted. Also, make sure to stop by the tailgates. In terms of mid majors, I have never seen a more vibrant tailgating scene. The fans are friendly and will almost certainly give you something delicious.
I totally agree about Easy Street Cafe. Get the Chicken Parmesan sandwich or the Easystreet Philly

If you visit Easy Street, I recommend you try the French onion steak sandwich, more affectionately known by the staff there as "The Crack Sandwich" due to its being addictive.
Trotters Tavern is basically an English style tavern. The food selection is pretty unique, but you can also have the best steak of your life if you try the Brown Jug Steak.
El Zarape is the greatest cheap mexican restaraunt around.
I don't know what weekend the Troy vs. BG game is but if its the same weekend as the Black Swamp Arts festival you are in for a treat.
Its tough to see the night scene with kids along, but if you get away from them somehow, Wednesday night Club 149 has live Jazz, and Friday night the Cla-Zel does also.
The Cinneplex inside the sMall has $4.50 movie tickets. I think they are only $2.00 on fridays.
Myles and Campus Polleyes are must-dos. Pisanellos is right up there with them.
The Corner grill is almost a landmark. Go in and ask about "The Mess", can also be called "Muchen-Tuchen."
The drinks at Reverend's are out of this world. All the Draughts are Micro-Brews, and and no cocktail they make is anything but top shelf.
I don't think I missed anything there. Trotter's and Reverend's are my two personal favorites.

Holiday Inn Express $86 and up 866-538-0328
Knight's Inn $49 and up 866-538-1309
Victory Inn $79 and up 866-538-6167
Hampton Inn 419-353-3464
Best Western 419-352-4671
Those are all near the stadium.
As far as restaurants, others will probably be able to help you better that I can, as I moved out of town a few years ago. With this scary economy and all, I can't swear these are all still there.
El Zarape is a mexican restaurant that was always popular when I was in town. It's across the street from the stadium.
Myle's pizza is a locally owned place located more downtown. It's one of those places that usually you either love it or hate it. Most people I know love it. The pizzas are loaded and they put the cheese on top and usually cook until the cheese browns.....or burns depending on who you ask:P
I second the Easy Street suggestion. It's at the main intersection downtown and is very good. If I could only recommend one place to check out while you're in town, this would be it for me.
Trotters tavern is another local place downtown that serves great steaks and wings.
Sam B's is a nice place also located downtown http://www.sambs.com/
Pisanello's was one of my favorite pizza places when I lived in the area. They're also downtown.
Mr. Spots for wings and philly style sandwiches.
There are plenty of other places too, but these are some that stand out to me.
Hope that helps you some.

Another option is to take the family to a Toledo Mud Hens game. Their stadium in downtown Toledo, about 25 minutes from BG. Looking at the schedule, there's a home game Friday, Sept. 4. Like most minor league parks, they tend to cater towards kids and families. It might be worth looking into.
Is it wrong for me to suggest something from that town up north? (FYI, Hemi Man, University of Toledo is our biggest rival)

I'll second...ok 23rd .. the Myle's recommendation...with kids along you might want to look at staying in Maumee...it's about 20 minutes to the north and one of the hotels..I think it's a Holiday Inn Express.. has an indoor water park. There's also a new shopping complex nearby at Fallen Timbers that has some decent food...well..they have a PF Chang's and some movie theaters also.
Perrysburgis 15 minutes to the north on rt 25 and it's a great option for a hotel also..The French Quarter has a nice indoor pool area..at least it did a few years ago..that would keep the kids occupied..they also have the shops at Levis commons wiht the standrd multiplex theaters.
Hope all this helps!!

If you are bringing the kids, I would highly recommend a trip to Cedar Point. It is one of the best amusement parks in the US and is just an hour away in Sandusky, Ohio, right on Lake Erie. There are a number of things to do in that area that the kids would enjoy, and you could also take a trip over to the Bass Islands on the Miller Ferry and spend part of the day at Put-in-Bay. It is really a good time of the year to go with good weather and fewer people than the middle of the summer.

Hemi Man wrote:WOW. You guys are good. Thanks for all the helpful tips. Looking forward to the trip and enjoying some fun up your way. I will have to return the favor if any of you make the trip to Troy. However there really isn't much to do down this way. Thanks again.
How close is TROY to Mobile? Our last trip to Mobile left feeling a little unaccomplished.

While all the suggestions on here are awesome, you really can't go wrong going to any of the local BG restaurants. The cedar point suggestion is a great one. It has something like 5 of the worlds top 15 roller coasters in one place (and in September shouldn't be too crowded http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/park/r ... /index.cfm)
I'm familiar with all the fancy stuff outside of BG but there's plenty of places to eat in town so enjoy those while you're here.

I'll reiterate Myle's. I've lived in the BG area nearly my entire life and I still eat Myle's at least once a month. Simply the best pizza I've ever had. Garlic Bread with Cheese is also the best I've ever had. I know quite a few people that have moved out of the area and the first thing they do when they return is hit up Myle's pizza. Then when they leave they'll take a Myle's pizza home with them (they'll half-bake it).
Cedar Point is a great suggestion, although an hour or slightly more away. One of the best amusement parks in the country.
I hate to suggest you hit up Toledo, but if you are going to go to Toledo the zoo would be great for the kids, one of the better zoos in the country as well.
As has been said, there isn't that much family oriented entertainment in BG itself, it's a small college town. The zoo, the Hens, and Cedar Point are all great suggestions, though, IMO.
