I would just like to see a coaching change to upstart the program again, and if the program gets shut down i will be very dissapointed while we waste time with mens bball and baseball being the disaster they are. The basketball teams cant even fill anderson and will struggle with attendance even with a new arena. Start giving the teams that have the talent what they deserve, atleast hockey competes in a competitive conference.
I understand your passion, but I hardly think the university is wasting it's time with basketball and baseball. As 24 noted, the men's basketball team is doing quite well this year, despite the dismal performances of some years past, and the women's program can barely be criticized. I'm not a huge college baseball fan, but I do know that our guys have been doing some dang good things lately.

I get your point about the CCHA being a more 'competitive' on a national level, and I don't necessarily disagree with that sentiment. Still, I am saddened that so many people feel that it is acceptable to undercut another's favorite Falcon team in favor of their own. It isn't just you - God knows that there were many people doing it in a previous thread about getting rid of the hockey program. We are all understandably territorial about our favorite programs, but in the end we are all Falcons.

I hate soccer with the passion of a thousand burning suns, but I would be the first to wish both our men's and women's teams well, and I would never disparage another's passion for them.

This post doesn't have much credability when you say these kids of things. The baseball team WON the MAC Easstern Diovision last year and is the winningest mens program at BG over the past 15 years, and that being accomplished with one of the poorer facilities in the conference and state. My god, baseball doesn't even have a dedicated locker room and get kicked out during the regular season of the one they "use" for youth hockey or an ice skating show!

Lets be honest. I know that the hockey team at BG has had some trouble winning over the last few years, but lets not compare the program to any of the other sports at the University. The Hockey team is the only team here that competes in a respectable confrence. Lets see the football or baseball team post winning seasons when they have to play Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan State or out of confrence teams like Boston College. And lets not forget the fact that the hockey program has more history than any of the other programs at BG combined. National Championships are not won by beating UT or Eastern Michigan in MAC play. They just aren't.

So lets get a real coach back in the driver seat and start winning some CCHA games. (not MAC)

even with a below average ice arena its possible to put a solid team on the ice with a new coach (and coaching staff). Look at Notre Dame and Jeff Jackson. before 2005 they were just an average team for a longtime, and now they're a nation chapionship contender with some of the best recruiting.

Of course we want to change the product on the ice first and foremost but the arena that was "good" in the 80's is old and in need of repair and / or replacement in 2009 ! I was also there at the same time as yourself and remember the lines for tix and what the program was like then which is why I'm on this board BEATING THE DRUM FOR CHANGE !!
I'm freakin' sick to my stomach with this current program and the way it has become the red headed step-child of the revenue producing sports and
the athletic department. We all need to e-mail and pick up the phone and let our AD know this crap is over and NOT be nice about it because that doesn't seem to work.
Gosh what do you guys think of Michigan's arena then?

Yes, but they have Red Berenson...

The same point has been made here about the Joyce Center at Notre Dame.

Great facilities does not equal great teams.

Eastern Michigan Basketball, Northern Illinois Basketball... The teams are horrible.

University of Miami football... Great team... terrible facilities.

I'm assuming you're talking about Miami (FL)?

Since there seems to be enough concern on this forum, as well as from other areas, regarding the rumors of a potential firing or elimination of the program, why hasn't the Sentinel or the Blade (or the BG News for that matter) been able to get to the real decision makers (Christopher, Whipple, President Cartwright) to ask the question? Just wondering if it has not been pursued, or if people are avoiding the question.

This question puzzles me.

Why does this thread start out on the topic of 'fire SP' and turn in to a discussion about: facilities, administrative support, recruiting, etc, while every other thread goes from whatever topic to 'fire SP?'

I'll reiterate my post, the mens basketball team is doing well this year as I have noticed their going for six straight wins against toledo this week. As for baseball I have friends on the baseball team and I guess undercutting them is bad and they had a good year last year. But the point I was trying to focus on is that our sports teams cant compete at the level hockey does, we are competitive with every team in our conference this year minus ND. A new coach followed after by a new arena could turn our program around. We have the talent to win games, the problem is that the talent alone is how we win games, not with coaching. Starting this year we had games covered on the NHL network which gets us very good national coverage, wouldnt recruits be more interested coming here if they saw a nice rink instead of the one we have, and a competitive program that the coach contributes too. I dont want any programs cut here at BGSU and it was wrong to throw those two under the bus but if you cant cut hockey over one bad year weve had. A year ago this time we were battling for a home ice series in the playoffs and even won our first round series. This year has been rough but with the talent coming in itd be a shame to cut the program and not see what could be done with some new leadership from the bench. Im biased though about this all because I am too close to the hockey team and not close enough to the other programs.

Fire Paluch and hire a new coach, I have a feeling our team would take well to someone new on the bench and play with a new desire. Just my opinion though.

Because the administration hasn't addressed any of the rumors and the people on the board have nothing else to discuss other than firing SP, facilities, etc....it's like a vicious circle jerk that we can't get out of.....and this puzzles you? Mostly it just makes my ass tired and my head hurt. :smt085
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."
