Great ! Another dagger. The quote from coach Jeff Jackson is all you need to know about what a building can do for a program. Of course we first
need a coach like Jeff Jackson to help rebuild our program. An established
successful coach. :x

Now we def. NEED a good new coach to start rebuilding NOW!!! that way by the time ND's arena is done we can have some top recruits and maybe planning a new arena at BG!

BG hockey will be taken care of right around the same time as world peace. I don't care if it goes, it will mean fewer recruits waste their time, more kids in the area can get ice time and the AD can stop making excuses for not putting money into the program.

The rumor is spreading. Check out the last sentance from Paula's weekly CCHA predictions on her USCHO column.

FSU at BGSU The Bulldogs have lost three games to the Falcons in the last eight meetings, all three losses coming last season when the clustermates met four times. After splitting with Michigan State last weekend, the Bulldogs are 1-2-3 in their last six contests while the Falcons are riding a season-high, five-game losing streak into this series. Why heart Ferris State? The Bulldogs haven't lost an overtime game (3-0-12) since Feb. 9, 2007. Why heart the Falcons? Because we want to see men's Division I ice hockey played in future years at Bowling Green State University. BGSU 3-2, FSU 4-3

I'm not in the group that thinks hockey is history but there is no way the University is going to maintain the arena if they don't have a team playing in it. Area kids will have to look elsewhere for ice time if BGSU eliminates hockey.

Paula's a good person, but not exactly tapped deep into the inner workings of BGSU.

It's not about being "tapped in" it's about the fact that the rumors are spreading. If it's mentioned in the USCHO preview, it's not much of a jump to say that recruits or potential recruits are also hearing these same rumors. The Hockey World is a small one...

The state of the program (wins/losses/disaster of a coach) is already being heard in recruiting circles. Rumors of shutting down the program, whether they are real or imaginary will be talked about.

I'm well aware of that, which is why I was so pissy about the morons having to recite the same baseless drivel in this and other threads. Now some amateur reporter is spouting off about it, and its festering into a real issue of debate, where it should never should have been allowed to see the light of day.

It doesn't shock me in the least that she'd pass the rumor on, the last I bothered to track her articles the same kind of thing would creep its way into her coverage.

It speaks to the confidence in the coaching staff that this has festered to reality in any case. If there were any belief he could get the job done, this wouldn't be happening.

Someone would likely buy it then. Or the University could make ... a profit off of it. I'm not an expert in ice rink managment but I'm guessing that BG hockey is a loss leader.

no sport we have is making money so i wouldn't put too much stock into that anyways... its not like we rent out the football field for 15 hours a day to pay off the money it costs to run the lights for night practices

No, but more than a few students have "rented" the 50 yard line for 15 minutes. They don't seem to want the lights on.

Paula used to check out this board regularly. I'm sure she still checks in now and then. If she is, you KNOW that recruits and their families do. All rumors should be addressed ASAP!!

"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

FF,
Call me a skeptic, but if GC were to say we are hiring a new coach and making a major $$ commitment to the program and the building; would you believe him? How about Dr. Cartwright?
Before they will get my money, I will need more than their word.
I still think they could raise $ 10million easier than they could $ 4 million.

That said Greg and Dr. Cartwright probably have about 5 weeks to have a press conference that will announce a change in the coaching staff and a major $$ commitment. 2010 and 2011 recruiting is at risk; and therefore the life of the program.

Paula IS a nice person, and a talented writer of prose. But the fact that she's not "tapped deep into the inner workings of BGSU" is PRECISELY my point. If even SHE knows about this: rumor, tumor, or what ever you want to call it, that means that it's common knowledge amoungst anybody who is even moderatly interested in CCHA hockey.

As someone else has already stated, the college hockey community is small, and very closely knit. You can bet that the cloud of uncertainty is common knowledge amoung: Junior League coaches, potential recruits, their families and advisors.
