My thoughts on local stuff:
Toledo Museum of Art.
The TMA is a fine museum, a gem that is all the more amazing because it is in Toledo. It is the best in the state as far as I am concerned, and I have been to what little the rest of Ohio offers. Except for the scab that is the UT art department, slapped like a single-wide trailer hooked to a mansion with duck tape along the one side of the building, it is a great place to visit. You can basically spend a day there, certainly five or six hours.
If you have any interest in art, glass work, etc, the TMA could be a truly great surprise bonus to a trip to our area, and I say that without hesitation.
The Toledo Zoo.
The Zoo is a worthwhile trip to make, not hard to get to both if you time things well. It is highly compact, a bit worn looking I noticed last summer, but more from being well used. Much of it would be lost on younger kids, but the 30s era WPA buildings are notable. The science and industry museum within the zoo can keep kids busy all day. And truly the area is lucky to have such a densely populated zoo. Statistically I think it is second only to Columbus in terms of net animals on display, within our area.
Parking at the Zoo is exceptionally easy to navigate, I'd rate it among the easiest places to get in and out of that you'll find anyplace. Make sure to use the Rt. 25 lot, which belongs to the Zoo itself. Get pictures of your kids on the cement statues, it is a local tradition dating back 70 years.
Yet I would not take an entire day and visit it, over the museum or......
Cedar Point.
If the family likes roller coasters, you are criminal not to consider a trip here. Without peer, it has the finest collection of coasters that were, when built, the record breaker in their class. Sure, you might find one higher than any given single coaster, but never so many titans in one place. Good food, better than average amusement park prices. Worthy of visiting up here to go to on its own. More than a few historic buildings buffs of such things would appreciate
This park, the flagship of Cedar Fair, and an example of why it and its other parks thrive while Six Flags might not survive the recession.
Local stuff......
If you like military history, a few miles north, we have Fort Meigs. Always something going on there.
http://www.fortmeigs.org/ At this point I would not bother with the Fallen Timbers up the river, nothing worth doing just yet.
