What cloud of uncertainty? That is my point. Baseless rumors, nothing more. Even describing it as something like a cloud of whatever, gives it legs. At this point I don't suppose it matters anymore, it has taken on a life of its own, and here we go.Freddie wrote:Paula IS a nice person, and a talented writer of prose. But the fact that she's not "tapped deep into the inner workings of BGSU" is PRECISELY my point. If even SHE knows about this: rumor, tumor, or what ever you want to call it, that means that it's common knowledge amoungst anybody who is even moderatly interested in CCHA hockey.NWLB wrote:Paula's a good person, but not exactly tapped deep into the inner workings of BGSU.
As someone else has already stated, the college hockey community is small, and very closely knit. You can bet that the cloud of uncertainty is common knowledge amoung: Junior League coaches, potential recruits, their families and advisors.

This "rumor" means nothing to me. No proof has been offered up to it's accuracy and until that happens I am treating it as credible as the minimum of 2 rumors about Paulch's firing this season. Until someone of authority (Christopher, Whipple, or Cartwright) makes a statement to support this trash it is dead to me. If the BG community were truly concerned about the loss of hockey in BG, because if the varsity team folded all hocked in BG would go as well, there would be a real push to come up with auxillary funds to help the cause.
For those of you who are community members and supporters of BG hockey please do not take this as a criticism of you or your commitment to hockey or BG. I simply refuse to support a rumor with no credibility.

Sad as it may be, rumors like this take on a life of their own, and create a situation similar to being 'guilty untill proven innocent". If these rumors are UNtrue, someone in the administration ought to be SCREAMING that news...the longer they wait to act, the more people will become convinced that the rumors are true.
Du hockey comme dans le temps!
The reason is that there is no good reason to let the rumors hang out there, but they are doing so anyway. If there were rumors that we were going to get a brand-spankin'-new $100 million arena, they wouldn't come out and kill those rumors because it does nothing negative to the program, regardless of whether they are true or not. Right now, there are extremely negative rumors, and they would either have to be incredibly stupid to not squelch them, or there would have to be some credibility to them and they are waiting to see what happens before they comment. Either way, it's not good.Freddie wrote:Sad as it may be, rumors like this take on a life of their own, and create a situation similar to being 'guilty untill proven innocent". I feel the same way. All the University has to do is make an official statement saying the hockey program is not in danger and the program has the University's support. To my knowledge this has not happened. I have also talked to several people that feel the same way.murphdogg wrote:The reason is that there is no good reason to let the rumors hang out there, but they are doing so anyway. Also the fact the the CCHA might realign since Alaska and Nebraska wants to switch leagues could be an opportunity for our University to pull the program.
I feel the silence from the University is a bad sign and I hope the silence is broken soon with good news!

The WCHA (which is the only logical league for UAF and UNO to go to) probably don't want UAF because it would mean traveling there twice a year to play UAF and UAA. That's a very expensive travel budget!! UAF wanted to go into the WCHA years ago, but was denied by them for that reason, I believe. Likewise, CCHA losing UAF and UNO, and gaining UAH, would offset travel expenses, but would help BG's travel budget overall. I seriously doubt if UAF & UNO will go to the WHCA.Falcon Frenzy wrote:Also the fact the the CCHA might realign since Alaska and Nebraska wants to switch leagues could be an opportunity for our University to pull the program.

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Silence is exactly what we should be hearing from the University. What if they did come out and say the rumors about varsity hockey were false and anyone giving them the slightest amount of life has no cluse what was going on in the world of BG athletics and would be better off keeping their mouths shut? One stupid rumor is put to rest. BUT, what happens when romors circle that another program is getting dropped or added? How about rumors about a coach leaving or getting fired? Once you take the first step down that slippery slope how do you stop? By responding to one stupid rumor the athletic department has put themselves in a position to have to address each and every rumor that comes along. At some point they may have to do more rumor control and less about running the department. You may have to address a rumor about a coach being fired BEFORE that information is shared with the coach themselves. This is all just stupidity! I really don't give a Falcons feather what Paula (I always have my scarlet and gray glasses on) Weston has to say about BG hockey. We all want what is in the best interest of BG athletics. So lets start by shutting down this stupid rumor and let the department administration do its job!Falcon Frenzy wrote:I feel the same way. Add in the "Alaska Exemption" and they're staying in this league. I saw an article the other day that said it's only about 20 more miles for BG to travel when going to UAB than NMU. Only thing I have against UAB vs NMU is quality of hockey. But, with the state of our program, should we be arguing about quality of hockey?ziggy z wrote:The alaska schools pay every visiting teams travel expenses as part of the deal to be in the league.
