Heh heh....not surprised. After everything the coaches and players have done with this program, here they are having to prove themselves again. Life as a mid major...but arguably the best mid major out there.
Just keep rolling along....

They are this year, and so is MTSU I think, but I think Freak meant best mid-major program, and right now we're definitely in the conversation.murphdogg wrote:I'm pretty sure South Dakota State is better than we are, but whatever... Today's the big day. Depaul's as good as out, which puts Middle Tennessee into the rankings. If another team falls out then we're in at #25. The thing that really disgusted me yesterday was that Pittsburgh didn't lose any ground in the AP Poll despite getting destroyed by 53 on Sunday. I don't care if its Connecticut, a top 25 team shouldn't be getting beat by 50 points. They currently stand 23rd in the coaches poll. Notre Dame falling out is another possibility but I wouldn't hold my breath. Hopefully the coaches will punish Pittsburgh accordingly, where the writers did not.

Bowling Green scored 45 votes in the Coaches poll this week, up from 19 the previous week. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to move into the polls, as we stand in 26th. Middle Tennessee State made the jump, while Depaul was the lone school to fall out. Pittsburgh, FWIW, got rewarded for their 53-point loss on Sunday by moving UP one spot this week.
As a baseline, it was this week in 2005-06 that we broke into 25th place, however then we only had 33 votes, compared to the 45 we have right now.

With little or no regard to schedule intensity and conference quality; I HATE seeing us lose our first two games, go on a 22 game tear through the rest of the season and not break into the polls. There are teams ranked with six and seven losses to our two. The fact that we haven't lost since week one or so is pretty outstanding to me.
We're gonna have to win a damn Natinal Title to get any long term respect out of these people. 20 win seasons every year aren't even making a dent.
I wonder how much of an impact it would have if AA had 3500 people in it for every women's game? If we could pack that place every game night, would that do more to make pollers take notice or does fan support have no bearing on rankings?

Polls
Tennessee would pummel the BGSU girls IMHO
Fan support has an impact insofar as to be a barometer of the program's prestige. Let's face it, if BGSU played Tennessee and beat them on a neutral court, Tennessee would still be ranked higher, even though that would be their 8th loss this season. The reason is the relative quality of competition and the fact that everyone wants to see the powerhouse programs doing well. That's the reason Utah didn't play for a national championship in football this year, and that's why teams like Tennessee and UConn will have to have egregiously bad records in order to drop out of the top 25.The Niz wrote:With little or no regard to schedule intensity and conference quality; I HATE seeing us lose our first two games, go on a 22 game tear through the rest of the season and not break into the polls. Based on what? The two don't play so you can't say that....and I know all about South Dakota State's sked this year.murphdogg wrote:I'm pretty sure South Dakota State is better than we are, but whatever... Besides, as J4H pointed out, I was talking about the program over the last several years....not just one year. And with only one SR on this team loaded with Sophomores and Freshman? Sheet....just wait.
I'm damn proud of the Falcons and feel they take a back seat to no mid major...and not many major teams either.
