Greetings from a Middle Tennessee Lady Raider fan

Post by KAjunRaider »

We've been following your progress, and it looks as though our teams' struggles getting ranked are on similar paths.

I find it ridiculous that some of those in the Top 25 are losing twice in one week, and dropping just a couple of places, or a team losing by 50 points (see Pittsburgh) dropping a spot or two.

If Bowling Green or Middle Tennessee lost to UCONN by 53, we'd be out of the polls and not receiving any more votes.

I will not be surprised at all to see some of the top non-power conference teams face off against one another, so one of us in knocked off early. Also, don't be surprised to see one of us playing at UCONN in the second round.

Did anyone notice that North Carolina played a whopping 2 games on the road OOC ?

Seems as if every time we beat one of the "bigs" they drop us from their schedule.

We have no seniors on this year's team, and are having a heckuva time getting teams to play us (here or there). We have inquired every power conference team in the nation, to no avail.

Tennessee is coming to our arena next year to open the season due to our head coach's being good friends..... so that is a plus.

Would love to see a Bowling Green vs MT regular season matchup.

Do Bowling Green fans feel the same way as many Middle Tennessee fans regarding rankings and seedings, etc ?

I think we all feel the same! We're getting a new arena soon and hoping that will draw in some bigger schools but there is never any love for any MAC teams. I'd love to see BG play MT in the regular season! I'd love for other teams to want to play either BG or MT, too, but it's hard to think they would want to schedule a mid-major team they might have the chance of losing against. While a UConn beating us would take us out of the ranks, BG beating UConn wouldn't be that great of publicity for them. It's the life of a mid-major really...

Many BG fans want to see a matchup between MTSU and BG. The topic of a Bracketbuster for women's b-ball has come up a few times as well

I think a Bracketbuster type of setup for women's BB would be great.

Lots of respect for MTSU around here. ANY mid major doing what MTSU and BG are doing yearly is fine in my book. It's no different than football...keep the mid majors down. Why? Are we that much of a threat to you?

22-4....three losses @Oklahoma, @Tennessee, Louisville. Pretty tough crowd there. Wins over LSU, Bama, Indiana and Arizona is very impressive.

Best wishes the rest of the season and here's to both programs taking down the BiG teams.

I do not like the idea of a bracket buster for the women and although I enjoy it on the men's side it really defeats the purported purpose ESPN feeds you.

By pitting two "mid-majors" against each other it means that one has to lose. Where the disparity in women's basketball is so massive that a solid BG or MTSU team can reel off win after win but not get much closer to the top 25 while the "big" schools only drop a few slots while getting walloped by the Dukes and UConns. Those loses are seen as "quality loses" while a BG close loss vs. MTSU would be justification for keeping a BG team out of the brackets. The only brackets that end up getting busted because of these mid-mid matchups is our own.

I'd much rather see mid-mid matchups in football than basketball. There is less to lose in football since we already know we won't be playing for BCS Championships.

I agree there are some negatives to a bracketbuster type of matchup, but, there are also a lot of positives. Can you imagine how hard it is for Coach Miller to put together a decent schedule? Who wants to come play at a BG? Does anyone really think Notre Dame will be coming to play at BG again after being taken to OT last year? How about Indiana? They lost at BG not too long ago. Does anyone think Hartford will be eager to schedule a return trip to BG.? Sure, we can get games with these schools on the road, but at home? This could change with the new arena, because the home court advantage may not be perceived to be as large as it is at AA.

To have a decent home schedule, I would rather it be against a mid-major like MTSU or Marist then Detroit, Youngstown State, etc. Even the big wins we had over these schools does nothing to help the RPI.
