BGSUVA POSTED THE FOLLOWING IN MAR 2006:

"Omar also had the third highest Wonderlic score (38) behind Bruce Eugene of Grambling (41) and Darrell Hackney from UAB (40)...Marques Hagans from UVA had a 37. Gradkowski got a 19, Betts from Miami had 33, Smith from Central Michigan had 16, and marcus vick, that idiot, got a 11, lowest score. Vince Young finished just ahead of him with a 15. sorry if this has been discussed before"

This proves that the test is completely irrelevant. They should burn the test, then rub the ashes into the ground, pour gas on the ashes and burn it again. Omar couldn't learn a playbook.

I agree it is very irrelevant. I had to take the test as part of a job application in 1996. It is very difficult to finish the test in the time alloted. The questions are not too, but you have to think quick to answer.

I took at Personnel Psychology course for my masters program and we did the Wonderlic test.

The questions are not that hard, but as stated above, you only have 12 minutes to complete 50 questions. You have to think fast, real fast.

PFT is one of the absolutely least credible places to go for NFL news imaginable. This story may or may not have a shred of truth to it, I have no idea, but PFT is notoriously AWFUL for NFL news.

They throw every rumor they hear to the wall and report it as news. The small percentage of time that they're right they look like geniuses, but more times than not their "stories" are total BS.

The site is given about as much credibility as the national enquirer among the NFL fans that I talk to.

I had to take one of those truth tests when I applied for a job at Musicland in the 80's. I was a "low risk hire" and got the job and robbed them blind.

I'd disagree that it's useless, especially at quarterback. Although a great score doesn't ensure a quality pro career (obviously), a low score likely means you're not ready to be the guy. If my defensive end does poorly on the Wonderlic I really don't give a damn. But when you're the quarterback, a leader of men, and responsible for learning huge playbooks, you better have some smarts.

Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb all seem very bright and are three of the best quarterbacks of this generation. I'm sure their average Wonderlic score absolutely destroys that of Vince Young, Ryan Leaf and Michael Vick.

But there's obviously exceptions, and although he was smart, Omar couldn't grasp an NFL system.

Hammb: Let me assure you that PFT is a good site for NFL news. He currently columns for The Sporting News and does radio spots on Jim Rome and Dan Patrick. Your comments tell me that you don't monitor the site yourself. Also, no "serious" NFL fan that you've talked to would discount the site. Finally, CollegeFootballTalk.com is a sister site that offers similar news/rumors. Check the sites out for a week, then let me know, and/or provide other sites for the "serious" NFL fan.

Well I am mostly interested in Browns news and the Cleveland scout.com site does a fantastic job covering the team, and the rest of the NFL too, for that matter. Most of the good rumors are in the pay articles, but they do a far more accurate job than PFT. Go onto their web forums and proclaim PFT as a great site for NFL stuff and you'll be lambasted. If you just want to read mindless rumors PFT is a great site. Unfortunately they throw everything at the wall and the stuff that sticks makes Florio look good. Personally I prefer the scout.com site where they actually try to get confirmation on the rumors and collaborate with multiple sources before printing it.

Agreed, Cleveland.com (Plain Dealer) is a good site for Browns and OSU, Scout.com is great for more of the mainstrem media angle and collegefootballnews.com (which is run by scout) is 'the' best college football site. PFT looks at the NFL from another angle. Regardless of outlet, no media member is above piling up some BS. Florio is a fan writing to/for other fans, and not a self-proclaimed 'expert' that constantly tries to convince the readers how much they know. Actually, the best part of the site are the Daily One-liners, where he links stories concerning every team. It's a great way to find the local media links for the NFL.
