I suggest that they start by printing posters of DickE3 out with his OSU jersey labeled "Our Tuition Money At Work?"

How do I become a member of the pro Stroh Center crowd? I am sick of hearing complain about it, mostly all the music students I know.

Tell them that they received their new building in 1979. The sports teams that play in Anderson have had nothing new since 1960! We're long overdue.

Trust me I do. But they have to piss and moan about something...this is just the flavor of the month. Once football season rolls around it will be something else.

I commented on his posting of a protest video he posted on facebook. This was his response.

"For the umpteenth time, It's not about the Strtoh Center being built or not!! IT'S NOT A BINARY!!! It's about the fact that our requests for a referendum were ignored by the USG! The February 23rd meeting had dozens of students at it calling for a referendum. That key fact shouldn't me margtinalized.

*The USG is asking us to foot the bill for a 60% mortgage! 22 Million dollars. 1.3 Million estimated in interest on the LOAN.

That said, they (USG) has also never produced a 5 year cost/revenue projection breakdown (AKA "Cost/Benefit analysis") for students to look at. We don't evem know what the costs of running the facility are going to be.

Also, we haven't been told what the mechanism for funding shortfall would be, in case (God forbid) the Stroh started operating at a fiscal operating deficit.

But hey, maybe we should let everyone else make all the decisions for us in life, even if we're getting screwed. 60% mortgage, no biggie...."

Needless to say I'm anxious for the Pro-Stroh groups to get going.

Personally I am Pro Stroh Center because to me the postives just outweigh the negtives and having read up on the subject I have no problem possibly paying the small fee that may come my way. To tell you the truth I believe that even though 1,300 students signed the petition, there were a number of those students that just did it passing through campus without really reading what they were signing. As for the pro Stroh crowd let me know when you guys hear about a meeting or anything of that sort because numerous people along with myself would be intrested in supporting that group.

Having not been on campus the whole semester (student teaching) I'm willing to guess this is how it unfolded.

Protesters: "They want to charge us $120 a year to build a building we'll get no use from!!"

Passer by: (taking off headphones, looking up from their phone) "What? Yea, I'll sign. Which credit card is this for?".....annnnnd scene.

I understand they've gotten the signatures, but 50-75% of those were people who wanted to sign something so Mr. Clean would leave them alone.

I'll give you an accurate summary of how they were enticing people to sign:

"Sign the petition if you don't want your tuition raised!"
"Sign the petition if you don't want to have to pay $120!"

...and how many people who signed will ever pay a cent of that money?

I called one of them out (on camera for the Blade) when he told someone they should sign if they don't want their tuition raised and he then started saying "Sign the petition if you don't want a fee added to tuition!"

Honest? Absolutely not. Neutral... VERY debatable?

Some interestig comments being posted here, with people who sound like they agree with most of us on here. I hope they vote against it then. I thought the one post made by a future Falcon was interesting.

If if they could win, the bean counting staff would find a way to shift things around until they pay anyway.

But let the children play.

So, does anyone know if there are faculty driving this group? And if so, who?

Yes, they drive them to school every day. It requires many trips as the bus is really short.

That is funny, but I'm serious here. If these students are being mentored by someone in a position of authority, I would think that that person, or those persons, should be expected to equip those being mentored with facts, and a defensible argument. I understand that there are some serious budget issues and concerns at BGSU, as there are at most universities right now, and I can certainly understand faculty objecting to the expenditure of a large chunk of cash on a 'non-academic' building. It is in their own interest, and I can respect that, and this is why I suspect that there may be some players behind the scenes.

If the 'pro-Stroh' students want a constructive means of combating this 'anti-Stroh' group, find out who the people are behind it, and put pressure on them to actually instruct those students in the facts and circumstances. These 'anti-Stroh' students have clearly already been radicalized, for whatever reason, and the only voices they are going to listen to are those of the people that they respect. I feel comfortable in assuming that they are going to respect the voices they have already been listening to, as opposed to those of USG and administration officials.

Just something to think about.

Sorry. Meant to say this earlier - Errol Lam is the person leading the group. He's a retired BGSU faculty member.

You may remember him from such hissy fits as "Justice for Carlos Adams" and any other ridiculous, reactionary, unjustifiable 'protest' on campus.
