Falcons trail OSU, 4-1 in the 2nd...
Yeah, the OSU fans were somewhat tolerable until they started that bulls**t chant. The boys never stopped trying, we were down 3 players! The rest of the team was gassed by the middle of the 3rd period. Plus, Kyle Page was having his back iced after every shift (which were a little shorter than usual). I give a hell of alot of credit to the guys, yeah it was 7-1, but they NEVER QUIT!!!! Everybody tried, the puck was bouncing around like a pinball the entire night (I would assume the ice was less than stellar) plus, I've never seen a puck die when it hits the glass like it was doing Saturday night. It would hit it and drop straight down...totally weird. The boards were strange too, the puck was taking some crazy bounces (and of course, the OSU players knew exactly what it was going to do because they practice there). Having played the game for almost 20 years, when you're down 2 players it's a big deal! Down 3 players is totally ridiculous! It puts a huge strain on the rest of the team. Nick made some big saves in the 3rd period, the two he gave up were not his fault. I think they had a 2 on 1 and a breakaway. Plus, we totally outplayed OSU in the first period, but their goalie, yeah, the same one who gave up 4 on Friday, was playing out of his mind. What can you do. Thanks guys, we appreciate everything you do, and we'll see you next year. Also a big thanks to the seniors, Cookie and I will see you at the banquet.

Jim, I have to admit, I was one of the folks who felt the guys cashed it in in the third period on Saturday night. I apologize for this and apologize to the guys who were left playing. I was wrong. I was just so frustrated because I knew this group could play better. I felt that on Friday night we played them off the ice and were very unfortunate not to get a win. So, I was wrong and need to accept responsibility. I think this is a talented bunch and I hope we can keep them all for next year.
No problem 'Derm. I just wanted the people who weren't there to know that they didn't quit. Not only were we down the 3 players from the fight, but I don't think Andrew Krelove played after the nasty hit he took in the first period. If anyone noticed, Brian Potacco was playing "D" in the 3rd period. Nick Bailen was a monster in this game. Not only was he playing great "D", but he scored our goal and was offensively rushing the puck all night. I swear, he could play forward just as well as he plays "D". Thanks to all the guys who've stepped up this year and played other positions. James Mcintosh is a forward, but he played "D" for almost half the season. And Todd McIlrath has taken turns at playing "D" too. We appreciate everything these boys have done this year. There's no quit in the guys, and we'll be a better team for it next year. Sometimes it takes circumstances like what happened this year to bring the guys closer together. We'll see. Thanks for coming down 'Derm, both nights, none the less. I wish I could have made it on Friday. But with work, I couldn't get out early enough. And thanks to all the Falcon fans who made it down and showed their support. The boys knew we were there. On another note, Good lord, was it like 9000 degrees in St. John Arena or what? Holy crap,it was like an oven! (That's where the restrooms and the concessions were).

That's good to hear. There's a photo at the link below, in which it appears that his face is about to be driven into the ice.

What was Spratt doing by the OSU bench anyhow?

I'd call it a draw. If you look at the file numbers on the pix that were posted, you'll see MANY pix were NOT posted. Nick took his own helmet off, then motioned Biondo to do the same. Biondo didn't, so Nick proceeded to tear it off for him. Both got in their licks, and I still don't understand why they both didn't get the gate.
As ugly as it was, it could have been alot worse.

Supposedly, he was taking advantage of the injury timeout to go to the BG bench to get a fresh water bottle. On his way past the OSU bench there was some jawing and sabre-ratteling. Then (pick one, according to your point of view) 1. Jimmy inadvertantly bumped a Buckeye's leg as he skated by OR 2. delivered a deliberate slash to somebody's calf. Pelleteir then shoved Jimmy (who fell over), Schmidt cross-checked Pelleteir then all hell broke loose.

Please tell me this was on the game tape that was sent to the CCHA office for review. If so, there should definitely be some more coming down from the top office.TheKa wrote:We were definitely outnumbered in the fight...one of the coaches emptied his bench...the other...held his players back and allowed his goalie to get stomped on.
Phi or Die
Just more proof that the two ref system at this level is a joke. The CCHA couldn't find SIX decent refs before the rule change where were they supposed to find six more? One of those pictures shows Sergott looking right at the Bailen fight yet neither of them got a penalty? And the boxscore lists Spratt's penalty as delay of game. Tells me he didn't do anything against the rules but they thought he deserved something anyway.pdt1081 wrote:Please tell me this was on the game tape that was sent to the CCHA office for review. I saw 7 falcons in the "group photo" and Spratt wasn't among them. No way to tell who might have been out of the frame.
Spratt's penalty (which was announced as "leaving the crease") was justified, IF the officials felt he left the crease. I'd buy Jimmy's story of him coming to the bench during an injury time out because that's how I saw it happen in real time and that is actually what I thought was happening. Schmidt's penalty was also justified because he left the bench...his penalty was announced as "Unsportsmanlike Conduct"...
The whole fight was insane actually. It was so hectic that I didn't even know that Kantola was involved in the fight until he was being thrown out...obviously, he was well hidden because even his parents commented on how proud they were that he held himself back...as he was being thrown out...they were a little shocked.
There were some funny moments in the fight too...McIlrath trying to find someone...anyone to fight with and no one taking him up on it...Dennis "Razor" Williams arguing with their assistant coach...all 4 refs looking VERY confused...I really wish someone would put the whole thing on youtube. It's too bad the game wasn't on ONN.
As for the game itself, I'm trying to block most of it out of my mind. It's the end of another horrible year. I'm still hoping that next year is better, but I'm not holding my breath at this point. I really hope the new staff, whenever they are put into place, can coach a power play. I'm seriously sick of watching a 5 on 3 when we have 5 guys standing around like little statues. I heard some disturbing comments during the game and quite honestly, if they hold water, this team is still in trouble next year. Let's hope it was just people blowing off steam!
GO FALCONS!
Here's to next year...

How about the captions on the photos of Jimmy on the ice:
