AZZ.com mentioned on the news!
Hey Grant,
Not sure if you caught it but AZZ.com was mentioned as breaking the story of Josh going to the Browns! It was channell 11 here in Toledo (not sure what affiliate they are). I just thought it was pretty cool to hear this place mentioned on a news program for having beaten them to the punch!

What was the Amstutz quote from the piece 36 did? He still thinks Internet message boards are some kind of little "underground culture" that he doesn't get.... yeah, I think that's obvious.McMetz811 wrote:All the news people look at this site. Info comes here first just like it should!

When he looks down he can't even see his own feet much less the rest of the world. People that don't read the forums assume it's all just rumors but really it's opinions on the programs and true facts about them. Rumors that come up on here get shot down immediately without hard facts. Amstutz has no clue...ZiggyZoomba wrote: What was the Amstutz quote from the piece 36 did? It's cool that we were mentioned on the news, but it's very dangerous ground for newsrooms to get involved in.
As one who works in the business, my station would never go with what an internet board is posting as fact. I'm not knocking this board, because this place is the best, but as a news producer, I don't think I would ever put something on the air from here.
Just my thoughts - not meant to be hurtfull to AZZ.com or anything

I had the same first thought. Maybe I should go over to toledorockets.com and report that Bruce Gradkowski is skipping his senior season and going to the NFL. I, of course, know because I am his brother. See if that hits the air.windycityfalcon wrote:It's cool that we were mentioned on the news, but it's very dangerous ground for newsrooms to get involved in.

I suppose sports reporters only read these things if they are really into their job. If you are going through the motions, maybe you wouldn't bother.
But it is a good idea, for the very reason you mentioned. If nothing else, it tunes you into what fans are thinking.
I wouldn't be surprised if Matt Markey's good Sunday piece on the bowls and their payouts was inspired by the common misperception (here and elsewhere) that the MAC has struck it rich.

this case coulda been a little different, since it was Tami that posted it, anyone that has spent a bit of time here knows what a post from "Luvmy5" is all about.
Whether they knew it was legit from that, or that a bunch of longtime posters took to it as credible and they worked it from there... its alot different than rushing to the news desk with a random post from a first-timer.
Especially with a school like BG, a community this size is a tremendous asset as the eyes and ears for a media outlet. Its their responsibility to check and double check, but for finding story ideas, I don't think you can beat a site like this.

I'm not disputing that this site is great, nor that the news pros in Toledo rushed to air the story.
I'm just pointing out that's it's dangerous territory to get stories from web sites without verification.
Granted the source for the Josh post was a good one (his wife), but that's not always the case, and I don't want to give people the impression that the media are quick to run with stories they see on the web, because we are not
