Orr named MAC Coach of the Year!!

I knew when I first met Orr at a football game when he was hired that it wouldn't be long before he had this program going in the right direction.

Congrats Coach, well deserved!!

In high school you would be banned for saying God or Lord in a statement. Personally I find it nice to hear. Just wondering if his mentioning to the guy above bothers anyone?

Meh...I don't care, but it's so cliched (when the outcome is positive). Why don't you ever hear a player blame God or Jesus when he fumbles the ball or misses the game winning shot?

The whole "thanking God" thing has gotten as annoying as players making "guarantees" of their teams winning. Joe Willie (who is God) cannot be duplicated, so shut up....especially when it's not a championship game.

+1 Pretty sure God, if he IS in fact GOD, likes Kent as well as he likes Akron, Southern Cal as well as he likes UCLA and BG almost as much as he likes Toledo. That's the whole point of being God-so yeah, thank him for the losses, too.

I was not sure how this would end up, but I suspected it would be Co-COY with Coach Orr and Coach Witherspoon (who had a pretty good year with a team that was picked to finish last in the East). Perhaps the two head-to-head wins gave Coach Orr the nod.

I think both were deserving, but I am glad our guy won. Congrats Coach!!

The praising of God, the humbleness --- it's 100 percent genuine. How can you not like and appreciate the guy? He was very deserving of this award.

Some of my fondest memories on the job over the last two years were sitting in Louis' office, just me and him, and doing my best to soak up the wisdom he shared. Everytime I thought I was being a nuisance and tried to get up to leave he would bring up a new topic. And I never felt like he was trying to butter me up so I would write nice things about him and his team. In fact, he doesn't read papers.

He's truly a different cat, and BG was fortunate enough to get him. You have to consider in two of his last three years at Seton Hall he made it to the NCAA tournament --- and then he got fired! Seton Hall's record since Orr's departure: 46-45 and a brutal 18-34 mark in the Big East. During one of our one-on-one chats I asked Louis if he took pleasure in watching Seton Hall suffer without him. He said, "You can't think like that." He's a stronger person than I'll ever be.
