Sorry. Meant to say this earlier - Errol Lam is the person leading the group. He's a retired BGSU faculty member.

You may remember him from such hissy fits as "Justice for Carlos Adams" and any other ridiculous, reactionary, unjustifiable 'protest' on campus.
Are you sure this is the only 'faculty' member behind it? Being retired - and given a quick perusal of a Google search - I don't really think he has any connection to facts or reality. If you can find someone else who may be current faculty who has a hand in this, it may be more effective. If not, go after this guy with both barrels blazing.

Having seen what I've seen of Errol Lam, I don't think I could have chosen a better word than 'radicalized' regarding the conduct of the current 'anti-Stroh' group. Curiously, I don't remember him from my days on campus. Was he in ACS?

People wondering about pro-Stroh groups, there is a basic one in place. It currently exists only as a Facebook group, but we will be working on mobilizing people in support of the Stroh Center for the referendum. If you want, you can also organize your own group. Right now, there are 250 members, but we are looking to expand, so join if you haven't already. Another key goal is to combat the misinformation being spread by some of these anti-Stroh groups. For some reason, Errol Lam and a few others have joined the group just for the sake of annoying the rest of the people in the group.

BO-

There may be other faculty behind the 'coalition' but he is certainly the most visible. I couldn't begin to tell you who any of the others might be.

There will be much more Pro Stroh stuff going on beside the single Facebook group. Count on it.

Husband to Faye Lam of the Jerome Library (when I was there anyway?)

In any case, the farce of the zombie USG being fought by the group being driven by an adult faculty member. In all cases, the students still don't know WTH is really going on.

I've absolutely no doubt that you will all band together and do a magnificent job. I am thrilled that you, in particular, are going to be a big part of the effort. I have grown to respect you and your opinions over the years, and I hope that there are more of your intellectual capacity involved in the effort.

Going forward, I think it would behoove you and your brethren to go after these faculty members. If anyone is responsible for disseminating misinformation, it is them. I doubt that you'll have many faculty on your side, but you will have the facts. Never discount them.

Indeed, push hard, real hard, for full disclosure as to what faculty are "advising" the group and push for them to make their views crystal clear. Indeed, why does a "grass roots" group require adults to chaperon the project? Why can't they form their own group and put their names to it collectively and publicly? Or are they choosing to hide behind the students to advance their personal agendas? Stinks to high-hell to me, I'd like to know what departments they are in, and what fund raising efforts those receive from Alumni, Development, or who, if any, have ever gotten comp tickets to the presidents box, events, etc. Tenor status, contract funding sources, etc, that might be nice to know too.

And it is a petty theme to some, but hammer DickiE3 on the OSU jersey issue. Even OSU fans will be more prone to back off, even if it annoys them that wearing that stuff is being taking to task. It is an example of clumsy, poorly considered thinking that somebody pushing something like this doesn't even think deep enough to maybe swap a photo out first.

Honestly, I would be wary of making too much out of the OSU jersey. Sure it is tempting, but I think the last thing those of us on the Pro-Stroh side want to do is turn it into mindless politicking and mudslinging. In reality, I can see going after what is at least mostly an unrelated issue and amounts basically to a personal attack would alienate more people than it would gain us.

I don't like that this guy who acts like he's such a big BG supporter seemingly is a much bigger OSU fan any more than the next person. But I think the Pro-Stroh push would be better served to keep a fact-based, professional approach. Don't resort to the mudslinging, radicalized tactics of the other side. Going after individuals just detracts from the real issue at hand. Talk to the students, respect them even when they don't respect us, and just explain as much as possible why The Stroh really is going to be a great addition to the entire BG community. Point out that the University is not simply building another basketball court, but that it is one part of a multi-faceted effort (to include things like the Wolfe Center and improved parking) to make BGSU a better school.

And at the end of the day, we're not going to win over everybody. And you know, that's ok with me. The important thing is that we have factual answers for their emotional retorts and any questions anybody might ask, and also that we keep our cool, and push for what's best for BGSU.

Figures that the music department would be behind this. Might want to see if any of them have tenure as well. ;-)

My wife is a former music student, can't touch'em if he's in the CMA.

Well, I'm a tenor so I didn't want you checking my status! :-D

Always bothered me when our choir director would say"OK, let's hear the men's part and then we'll do the tenor part".

Well, looks like here we go, the students will be voting. I can see this thing about to go right up in smoke in front of our eyes with the amount of opposition and seemingly very little backing of the project:

Curiously I heard that Stroh's donation to athletics did not come with the explicit requirement that it go to name/fund the convocation center. If so, they might have spent the money to dress-up Anderson, fix the ice arena, and re-trench a few budgets.

I donno, but in the weeks since the matter first come up, I sense that a certain percentage of support for backing the fight against DickiE3's campaign has waned.

Bad timing in any case.

Its always easier to spend someone else's money... how about I come over and take 1% additional out of your paycheck every week without your consent?

Sure its not the same amount... but I bet you'd be pissed as hell.

There are people backing the Stroh Center. Beginning Monday we'll be getting out on campus and being much more visible about the whole thing.

If anyone is interested in helping (especially those on campus), shoot me a PM and we'll talk about it.
