What a load of crap. It just repeats the rumor and speculation of the sent-trib article and even throws in MY OWN baseless speculation that it was done to spur the alumni into stepping up to the plate. At least they confirmed from George Roll that the alumni are, in fact, doing just that.
Actually I liked it. Quite a few people read that site outside of BG which can't be said of the ST. The more "out there" this gets, the more people are informed, meaning it will get to many more former players, meaning more support to keep the program alive, meaning more repurcussions should the university decide to can the program.

I really don't think they realize just how much $ comes into the university because of the program, regardless of its current state. There are a lot of Falcon Club dollars on the line, not to mention the "Building Dreams" money that has been promised but not yet collected. Pissing off doners isn't usually a good idea.

Thanks Rick. Now that I think about it, I do believe you are correct. Well, maybe someone up there will contact him.

I'm sure Mr. Mason will know or already does, as cued in as he's been his whole life to college hockey. I hope enough support is generated regardless of what happens to keep the program afloat. The fact that it's getting put out there is encouraging, and if the rumors are indeed true, this may be the last attempt we've got at saving the program. I'm still in utter shock and disgust that things have reached this point.

What might happen, if, in addition to the current season ticket base, another 2,500 additional packages were sold? Basically drive hard to bolster the bottom line.

Beyond that, annual donations to cover running gaps in operating budgets won't do either. Maybe right now, more than the darned building, trying to score some chunks of endowment funding might help.

At least it would signal the administration as to how many people and money cares, assuming it works. I've not bought ticket one since Buddy was let go as coach. But such a crisis would move me to spend money, even if I still won't attend until AFTER they fire the coach.

Perhaps this is part of the malaise in keeping Paluch around as head coach, keeping the money from his buyout, and since the program is on it's last legs, conserving money and what not.

Seriously two things for future season ticket sales at BGSU: A check-off box to pay an extra dollar for "Future Bad Coach Buy-outs," call it "Sucky-Coach-Insurance." And a "Donate a Dollar to Renovations" box to gather creeping money for repairs and upgrades.

Indeed, I think the ticket people should ask everybody buying each ticket that very question anyway. (the one about donating an extra dollar for renovations. The concession people too.)

BGSU spokesman Dave Kielmeyer said Tuesday night that “no decisions have been made whether to cut any university programs, athletics or academics.”
That quote there says to me like they've at least discussed it, otherwise the dude would say something like, "it hasn't been a thought." or something like that to kill the rumors.
Falcon hockey head coach Scott Paluch said this morning "no decision I'm aware of has been made."
I'm sure he's just glad they're not discussing his job for next season...

I got another response, this one shorter:

The list of people getting calls from sources grows.

The future of the program is being considered in the context of the entire department, and the budget crisis. Much of the early talk in this thread, of conspiracy, Cartwright, cloak and dagger meetings, is entirely crap. It is purely a departmental matter, thus the final call is indeed in the hands of GC. What he says will stick.

So if you want to lobby, focus your fire on GC. One persons gut feeling based on their perspective, is that this is going to be an all-or-nothing call. No "call to action," or attempt to spook money out of the woods. The likely timeline, and there isn't any fixed one, is likely in the next week or two.

I believe what I was told to be accurate in reflecting the situation. To the degree in which I expect hard reality to vary from what I have been told, I can only conclude that there is meaningful risk of the program being ended. However there is no decision that has been reached or dispersed.

Yes, people on campus are reading this thread, and that extends high enough into things that one should be mindful of what they say.

Take this as you will. I have an hour and a half drive home now, those who can, as my source did, are free to call me. But your time might be better spent calling the Athletic Director.

The Facebook group is growing fast: 427 as of right now, a lot of representation from other CCHA schools.

I'm still waiting to hear more on this situation...and if it merits it I think signs would be a good idea.

I'd give anything for it to be 426. Shirtless McSunburn needs to go.

But a great move, Drew! And I was impressed, but not surprised, to see the support from other schools.

GO BG!

The university should check into the cost of having a division 1A football
program compared to a division 1AA program. BGSU cannot compete with
the OSU's and USC'c and we are spending to much on football. I hear the
Ice Arena had to pay $450,000.00 for the lights at the football stadium, and the golf course had to help also.
