I think that if the hockey program is allowed to proceed, there will be a strongly implied, if not explicit mandate to bolster season ticket sales to start, and to find a way to draw together the private money.

If the next 6 to 9 days prove to end happily, the next major topic we should engage is how do we as the large group of individuals organize to the benefit of Falcon Hockey. More than any sport, specifically because it is not as generally understood by some as basketball and football, must be able to organize.

I would also gladly donate $100.... and I'm a student!!

Heck, I'd even promise to stop cussing at games if that's what we need to bolster ticket sales to families and such... ;)

Putting this seriously though, if the ticket booth attendant, concession attendants, season ticket renewal card, etc, had asked for an extra dollar for renovations, would you give it?

If people knew how dire the situation was, then yes. Typically, no, though.

Easily, without a doubt. In hindsight, this may have been the best course of action to see some results.

The Devils got back to me and let me know the email was forwarded to Mike Emrick, I'll be curious to see if he replies.

Oh, I guess I didn't answer the question. I would always give money to the program whenever... I already gave a lot to the Falcon Club and earmarked it for Hockey, and I would give at the door.

The typical student who didn't care either way would probably not, though.

For what it's worth, I know for a fact that there are a large number of hockey alums that are waiting for one thing to happen before opening their pockets...

I think this situation sets up the perfect quid pro quo.

Much as I might think what they are waiting for is understandable, I don't know how it happens in a year where the very existence of the program hinges on estimations of long-term support and financial solvency.

That said, could it be that firing Greg Brandon might now be seen as possibly being as much to cut losses next year as anything else? Were BG able to make a bowl game, make a little extra scratch with a full stadium, how much more might the program have earned?

Fire SP, declare the fans must step-up and shell out, and I think you could rally the troops enough to make things work. GC's call on the program may lay in how much things can be reversed over the next two years. The new budget year starts in May?

What is the season ticket base?

Since I'm a member on Kuklas' Korner blog, I wrote a guest blog about the situation so it reaches more eyes. I'll link everyone to it once it is posted.

The alumni are in correspondance via e-mail, and are trying to be as proactive as possible.

From what I have seen and read, it is very discouraging that the person that is supposed to be the leader of the hockey program, SP, has not stepped up to bat for this program. This is a critical juncture, and he appears to be waiting in the wings, to see what happens.

I can't say that I expected anything different, but it makes me shake my head in disgust.

Grow a pair, and take a stand for the program.

I will donate 20 thousand clam$ if it is to a non profit fund for the sole purpose of the hockey team.

I think he'd like to do something but probably feels awkward about it considering he might be getting fired soon. Also, a lot of the negativity surrounding the program is due to the fact that he's still our coach. If he stepped up to the plate a lot of people would make the claim that he's doing it just to save his own a*$.

Just for the sake of asking, how would a fund be set up to where people could direct donations, and how long would it take?

GO FALCONS!!!!
