I don't think it would take long at all for someone to set something up just to collect money.
BUT, to make for an actual non-profit fund (which people can use in tax deductions, etc.), I think it takes quite awhile. You're dealing with the government, you know.
On the other hand, banks set up funds for children and families who are fighting illness or lose their home or family in a tragedy, so I don't know if it would be much different. Could a bank step up and create something for people to donate to in BG?

The S-T is keeping up with the controversy, and as of 2PM today, three fresh letters to the editor have been posted. I must say, Denise Brennan's
made my eyes well up a bit.

I would think a fund could be set up by Ay Ziggy Zoomba
I would also think that while Scott could feel awkward, it is his school too, and he should be willing to realize that, that is bigger than his position as Head Coach and the record he has recorded and what fans feel about that.
I would also that if the fans can quickly raise 400k that the University might well be interested in saving face by reallocating the 400k the program was supposed to have.

Sorry... someone else can do that... but it won't be an Ay-ziggy-zoomba.com fund. Too much liability involved in doing/managing something like that.

I would donate and I know that if it was for something like hockey we could get loads of students to shell out a couple of dollars for something like that. It depends on the way we go about it.
I want to thank for your passionate support of our hockey program and the University.
At this point, we have not made any final decisions about program reductions, including athletic programs.
However, given our current financial situation, some cuts to programs and services at Bowling Green State University will be necessary. Currently we anticipate a budget shortfall for the next fiscal year between $6 million and $10 million. Those who have budget management responsibilities, such as deans, vice presidents, and the athletic director, have been given reduction targets and have been asked to develop recommendations about how to meet those targets.
Throughout this process, programs in all University departments are currently being reviewed and carefully scrutinized. We face some agonizing decisions. Our top priority is preserving our core mission and preparing the University for a successful second century of service.
As you may know, we began implementing cost-cutting measures last year. A hiring freeze was announced last fall and in December we notified a number of administrative staff members that their employment contracts would not be renewed. Additional decisions will be announced later this spring.
I want to assure you that everyone on our leadership team is carefully weighing each recommendation. This is not a responsibility we take lightly.
This in the Sent-trib.com today : I paraphase Greg Christopher declined comment and referred all questions to
university spokesman Dave Kielmeyer ...
Rumor also has it the program can be saved if the supporters come up
with the $$$$$ in the next 2-3 weeks.
1. sounds like extortion to me
2. to whom do we deliver the unmarked bills?
3. if there were to be a fund raising campaign, it would be for pledges, not cash.
4. do you trust GC or Dr. Cartwright??
5. would that be an ice arena renovation fund or a "BG Hockey Program" fund?
6. any fund would have to have trustees like Buddy Powers, Danny Schmitz,
Fran Voll and Alan Mayberry
7. If "we" put up $ 400,000; $ 1million; or $ 10 million is the State of Ohio and BGSU going to put up $$ ?
8. If "we" pony up a few $ million; can we fire Greg Christopher and Scott Paluch?
9. what other strings do we want to impose if we "Bail Out" the Athletic Department?
I'm not sure if fund raising is an athletic department function, but Marcia Latta at Alumni and Developement would be group that should be involved in an Ice Arena fund raiser. Alumni and Developement was probably involved with the Stroh and the Wolfe. As far as I know, they have not worked at all toward fund raising for the Ice Arena. ( maybe they were told not to bother)
Ok, there's two sides to this RUMOR!! first some of it has gotten outta hand because on the walls of the fb group and other hky forums there's less and less mention of "the rumor" and more and more people saying "why'd they get rid of hockey." Some of the current players and recruits are upset about the possibility of even getting the program cut.
On the other side, hopefully the Unv. (even if the rumors were untrue or not) will see the massive support for the program in a very short time. You don't see 3 letters to the editor in one day thanking the unv. for the new basketball arena or theatre! By realizing how much how many people care about the program they may be more willing to spend some money on the program and renovations!
Ive been thinking and I have to wonder does anyone know what Miami, Ohio State, ND, MI, MSU and other CCHA schools spend a year on hockey?
1. Recruiting
2. Wages
3. Travel
Has anyone given consideration to the thought that we may well just be getting grossly out spent?
I only say this because while we are a part of the CCHA and we have chance to win an NCAA title (the only fair shot NCAA title next to basketball, that there is.) that we may not have a realistic chance.
I think whats more important to me than keeping hockey, is having a hockey program that is competitve on all fronts, with other similar schools.

President
The issue is, and I've been worried since she became pres, Cartwright is known for strong focus on academics. I just thought though, if they cut hockey won't they need to add another men's revenue sport for title IV and all those equality issues. So even if they save $$ cutting hockey some of that would go back into the new sport! ie less money actually saved, and i doubt a sport like men's swimming or volleyball would get as much ticket sales as hockey!!
Many of us are willing to contribute to a BG hockey renaissance, but I think that's for later.
For now, we have to show the administration how important the team is to us. Had this not come to light, I'm convinced there would have been a done deal announcement this month. We just have to keep after them in hopes that they will keep BG hockey. If that happens, I wouldn't be surprised that it would be conditional on financial support that they would solicit.
Another person to contact is Jane Myers at the Falcon Club. She doesn't deserve the hassle, being one of the few people I really admire at BG, but she should be informed what the consequences will be from some of us with regards to Falcon Club membership. If the hockey team goes, I'll end my membership with the club, my season tickets for hockey and football, tix for the few basketball games can squeeze into my schedule, and probably will never visit Bowling Green, Ohio again. Pisanello's will lose my business, along with every other CCHA city and non-conference school locations. I should be looking at the bright side; I'll be saving several grand per year.
As for Scott Paluch, I believe he will do whatever he can to keep the team afloat, but he's got to have some time to decide what will be effective. Pooch may have had his problems, but I don't think there's anyone more dedicated to Falcon Hockey.
If I can make it look decent, I'm going to be wearing a BG hockey T-shirt with the BG Hockey emblem upside-down to the Quicken Loans Arena this weekend.

A new coach is a simple answer, look at ND, new coach with amazing recruiting skills and they play in an arena almost as bad as ours. Now they've had so much growth in winning fanbases, sponsors, etc in the last 5 years that a new ice arena is going to be built!!
