Thank you Garry Galley!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR LETTER!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."
~~USCHO Poster
"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Re: Trustee Emails
Just sent a succinct note to that whole list. [email protected] got returned as not finding that host and stephanie.imhofff got bounced as no such recipient. I tried that one again with two f's instead of three and it hasn't bounced back yet.Falconator wrote:Here is the email for all the trustees:

I think something that should be noted in the messages is that the community realizes that to sustain the program a great effort must be launched. But that the strange creature that is the relationship between the BGSU Ice Arena, being under rec. sports, and the team, being under athletics needs o be addressed.
The culture clash between academics and athletics comes to a head when you have a facility that does not get income from the team it hosts, and presents a budget item for one half of the school, and athletics. Nobody on one side understands what the other side needs or wants. Hockey suffers accordingly.
The decline of the building isn't the teams fault, nor actually the responsibility of the athletics department, on paper.
The team isn't the responsibility of rec. sports, but they seem to not grasp the need to spend to keep the building up to spec. or the impact not doing so has on the bottom line of the team hosted within it.
These trustees must convey to Greg Christopher that there is support for the program, if it is harnessed, and thus far it has not been. And that the complex nature of the team and arena have to be dealt with before being able to make a fair evaluation of the program.
Beyond that, people need to take a sharper aim at who is going to make this happen. This starts with GC. Shooting at Cartwright and the Trustees is a waste of munition. It is true, and correct we should write these people, but not without first writing to the AD.
We want to nip this in the butt at the root, not the stem.

I think Nathan is correct in his assessment. It is crazy to think of all the money that is made by parking at the rink and it does not go to the rink to support repairing the parking lot. I think the same applies with the concessions. I can't imagine a real business running like this.NWLB wrote: The decline of the building isn't the teams fault, nor actually the responsibility of the athletics department, on paper.

On another note, anyone have any ideas on designing a t-shirt that we could get produced (something like Save BG Hockey!)?
And there is a the rub. What I'm unable to pin-down is if the athletics department is lumping the concessions into a larger line-item, or deducting that and the parking from the cost of the hockey program.bgwheelhorse wrote:I think Nathan is correct in his assessment. There isn't enough coming into the program to cover the cost. I have more reason to believe the figure of $700,000 is defensible by athletics. However, you get into the question of how they are accounting for the parking and concessions, in figuring out the real and final number.
No matter how you cut things, there can't be enough in parking and concessions to cover the deficit. I've heard season tickets could be, based on a very old number, as low as 200 to 300.
I think the ticket prices have to go up a few dollars, and you need to get about 2,500 season ticket packages sold as a starting point. Assuming things are given a chance to move forward.

I have a question that someone might know the answer to. If they cut hockey and its 20 scholarships, don't they then have to also cut 20 women's scholarships to stay in compliance with Title IX? If so, then this will also lead to a women's team or teams getting the axe too.
Pretty soon we will not even have an athletic department. We will have football and whatever combination of women's sports equals 85 schollies.
I know this angers many on these boards but we just should have gone I-AA in football back in 1982 when they really, seriously were contemplating it. BGSU has wasted so much money trying to remain in DI football or FBS football, whatever its called now, for the last 20+ years it is not even funny. We lose money going to bowl games, something inherently wrong with the picture when you lose money being successful. We could have been a I-AA power and won National Titles instead of losing millions.........

If they think about dropping to 1AA then they should just drop football.
And the thing is, football doesn't make money, but hockey is told not to lose money. If they cut hockey, football still will lose money. But you will not have hockey around to attract other fans, among other things.

From the BGSU web site:
First impressions mean a lot—and the Stroh Center will be a great first impression of BGSU for many people,” Christopher said. “From campus tours, concerts or games, nearly 500,000 people will use the arena each year. The Stroh Center will provide a terrific front porch for Bowling Green."
Hello? There are a lot of people that use the Ice Arena. First impressions of buckets in the hallways during a rain, crumbling parking lot, etc do not give an outsider a warm fuzzy feeling. People on this board said the old Goggin arena was a dump. We are way beyond dump status.

From USCHO forum.
Maybe this is the future.
OK, I believe that BGSU comes out of this stronger then ever. Many times the real threat of losing something that has been around and taken for granted (like BGSU Hockey) can force everyone to decide how much it means to them. I think the BGSU community is finding out right now how much love their is for their hockey program. Thru this process programs will be implemented to secure the hockey program for decades to come. I think you will see a hockey endowment established and I think you will see many alumni and community leaders step up to fund the BGSU hockey endowment. We will probably see a plan to improve and upgrade the facilities over the next decade. The BGSU team will end up in the middle of the pack next year and the fans will have something to cheer about. The following year they will win the CCHA and they will be going to the big dance. This will happen because the life of the program was threatened. They will not only survive they will thrive. Roll Along!!!

Guys- I was contacted by Alan Mayberry and he asked if I would tell you all again that he is NOT a trustee. Can you please edit your post and remove his e-mail? He is a supporter, an avid hockey parent and fan...NOT a trustee!
He was one of the first to write letters of support (see his letter to the editor in the Sentinel), he doesn't deserve to be taking fire...
KEEP IT UP BG FANS!!
TOGETHER I TRULY BELIEVE WE CAN SAVE THIS PROGRAM!
GO FALCONS!
