The talk on JJhuddle is that Ringer wasn't offered by OSU because of his grades.

Hood is a RB on the Numerical and a DB on the Alphabetical so we're both right . . . What's up with Campbell? That's news to me and a huge loss, maybe the best player we signed last year . . .

Hadn't heard about Campbell.

FWIW, Hood is listed as a DB in the programs that they sell at the Doyt.

I've seen Ringer play (as a soph./state championship game), was VERY impressed with him then. However, I find it interesting that some of our guys say we should hop on kids who are questionable in the academic area. If OSU, for pete's sake, backed out on this kid, why would WE want to take a "flyer" on him? My personal favorite RB (behind Pope) is on an academic "leave of absence" per the coach...may never play another down of FB for us... It's a wasted scholarship that I'd prefer see go to a kid who does it in the classroom as well an on the field.

I'm not saying take academic chances . . . absolutely not . . . But I'm sure MSU does as much homework as tOSU does and if John L. Smith offered the kid a scholarship, I'm sure the academics will take care of itself.

The whole basis of my argument was that kids like Tim Conner and Blaine Maag can sit back and enjoy the glow of getting a letter of "interest" from tOSU, but until they sign a scholarship to play there or absolutely agree to walk-on, then they're fair game and we need to develop more of a "why not us?" mentallity.

I don't expect us to compete with tOSU for recruits, but we damn better well be competing with Central, Cincinnati, Miami, Marshall, Akron and Ball State. In the past we have, this year it remains to be seen.

Petey Hood played corner on the scout team. If you talk to people close to the program, the feeling is he'll contribute a lot next year at a corner. The roster also shows Corey Partridge as a DB (played WR on the scout team and should be in the WR mix next year) and Pete Winovich as a TE (and we all know he got moved to LB back in November) so I wouldn't put a great deal of faith in even the updated roster (can anyone tell me why we're the only team in the country that doesn't include a roster with their game notes?).

We need to recruit at least one RB and two if Stover is gone for good (and he's not listed on the updated roster). Greg Keys from Bellevue would be a nice fit (good size & speed). If you were talking about Tim Conner, the running back from Cleveland Glenville, he's committed to Eastern.

We also need to recruit a couple of corners (we seem to have an abundaance of young players at safety but not many corners) and d-linemen. With Matt gone, Nick Davis and Brandon Curtis both have a chance to get into the DT/NT rotation while Brandon Mack looks like he could be a heck of a player at DE. You can never have enough d-linemen.

I wonder if we'll recruit a quarterback and keep him there. It looks like they're recruiting Freddie Barnes as an athlete.

I think Tray Rutland was looking at us and Tulane. He's a well regarded QB.. Do we need one in this class? O4 is a JR next year, AT will be a RS freshman and Washington will be JR. I think you could get away with taking a couple of "athletes" rather than a pure QB.

I think Eugene Jarvis from PA would be an interesting player. He's a tiny guy but he can really motor. That would give us a change of pace form the current backs we have
