No hypotheticals, no "if I could afford it." If the University asks for donations for the hockey program how much will you give to save falcon hockey?

If I weren't still in college I would donate as much as I possibly could. But right now I can barely afford to pay my rent for the rest of the year. I think it's going to have to be the alumni who step up in this instance.

I would definitely put up at least $100. I hate being a poor college kid. But that doesn't mean we can't have fundraisers on campus!

There will soon be a SaveBGHockey.org website that will be posted on here ( and everywhere)

As I am designing it ( that's scary )
there will be letters from Mayberry and Galley
pictures of the '73 team, the 84 L. Placid, Scotty, BGHS, BHYHA

there will also be a section that talks about
"How much $ ??"
there will be a please cut and paste and return the attached pledge Form.

donor name
e-mail address
location/state
pledged amount

I do not want any money until we have numbers, and until the likes of Judge Mayberry, Al Green, Mike Furnas talk to Dr. Cartwright, GC and the CFO.
I also want guarrantees that $$ will be returned ito the individual donotors if the program / arena are closed

There also needs to be a guarantee from the U that money given WILL ONLY GO TO THE HOCKEY PROGRAM and not to other needs in the athletic department, as has happened in the past with B!G donations from former players....

It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. I don't see how the admin can't just raise tuition by $50-100. They're already going to do that in a few years to pay for the basketball arena. I'm sure people would pay a little more to save hockey too!!

For me to dontate the fund must be set up as a 4013C. It must be non profit organization. If so I would contribute 20K.

I think you mean 501(c)(3). I work for a non-profit, so those numbers make sense to me ;-)

ALL Ohio publc universities have been instructed by the Governor that they will not be allowed to raise tuition. This will be the third year in a row that tuition has not been raised by the 4-year public universities.

As far as raising general fees, that is where the $60 Stroh fee would be placed and you already know the uproar that has been generated for a fee that wouldn't come about until the 2011-12 academic year.

QUESTION - Since the Ice Arena also holds classes and is a general use facility (not solely used by the Athletic Dept), does the Administration need to approach the student body if they wanted to designate an increase in general fees to the Ice Arena?

Good question Transfer. I also want to know if they cut hockey how much are they going to reduce the general fee? Hockey tickets have been included in student fees up to now, how much will they cut if they take those tickets away?

Is the money coming from student fees, which previously was tasked with paying off the debt on the Arena, now being spent on something else?

Did some calculations and the lowest price ticket for hockey I could find was $7. We had 20 homes games (I'm not counting the exhibition game as it was free of charge) so it would be $140 per student. If enrollment is 15,000 at BG then that equates to $2.1 million that needs to be subtracted from the student general fees if they deprive the students of hockey and, therefore, the value of the tickets. I doubt that the general fees ever went down after the Ice Arena was paid off so, if they cut hockey, now would be the time for students to demand their money back by reducing the fees.
