BOISE, Idaho Idaho Steelheads Head Coach Derek Laxdal, looking to add some offense to his team as they make a final push for playoff positioning, today signed rookie Brandon Svendsen to an ECHL contract.
Svendsen, 23, played four seasons at Bowling Green and ended his senior year earlier this month with a 7-1 loss to Ohio State in the second game of their first-round Central Collegiate Hockey Association best-of-three series.

During the 2008-09 season, as Alternate Captain, Svendsen had his best season establishing career highs for points (30, second on the team), goals (12, tied for second on the team) and assists (18, second on the team). Overall, the Minnesota native played 148 career games with 76 points (32g-44a).

Give him a few years, I see him having a nice, long, Mike Johnson/Dan Bylsma-type NHL career - third line, penalty killing depth player.

Way to go Brandon!

An assist on an early goal, the game tying goal to send it to overtime and a goal in the shootout to help his team break a three game losing streak.

Congrats! What a game!

His next most impressive feat will be getting the media relations guys to learn how to spell his name!
