For those that might be in Mobile awhile and want to get out of those extended stays, I suggest doing these things:
Take a walk or jog through Springhill College

If you're staying at the Grand Hotel, take a walk or jog or ride (you can rent bikes) down the "boardwalk"... just ask the locals. This is one of my favorite things to do.
Drive down to Gulf Shores (45-hour south of Mobile) and walk down the beach. I'm pretty sure it's still there.
Take a walk through downtown Mobile. Check out the Cathedrals, the Parks and French-style architecture.
Drive down one of Mobile's many canopy roads and look at the antebellum mansions (Government Street, Old Shell Rd, Dauphin Street).
Check out Ashland Place (The Ashland Gallery is AWESOME!!)

MOBILE: part 2
Hey MobileBama ...
Just wanted to say a resounding THANK YOU for all the great information you have provided us with! I'm not sure if we'll have time to see everything there is to see in Mobile, but we are sure looking forward to the trip and based on all the things you have said there is to do there, sounds like Mobile would be a nice place to take a vacation sometime.

Well, you're right in the thick of things, unlike the BGSU team hotel. It depends on what you want to do. I suggest just getting out of your room and walking around downtown. Just ask the person at the front desk how to get to Dauphin Street and start walking. If you want to be a bit adventurous, take a cab to Springhill College and walk around campus.
But I can't stress enough that you need to bring a camera for the parade. It will be the highlight of your trip.
Sorry I couldn't give you more specifics on what to do. If you scroll through this board, I've listed a bunch of things to do.
Maybe the moderator can put them all together and keep them as a permanent thread at the top.
