Just one question. Do you celebrate your Birthday? It's a bit like that.

I was going to ask if your parents had any kids that lived, but I won't.
Now you see...that's the difference between you and me. I have something to say, so I say it. You have something to say and you're too much of a candy ass to say it....

BGFan and I had talked and talked about going to Lake Placid for the games. I had only been teaching two years. He had gone back to school to finish up his bachelor's and we really couldn't afford it, though we really tried to make it happen!! We ended up watching the game at a friend's home up in Toledo, with a bunch of TU (back then, we called it TU, not UT!) friends. By the end of that game, EVERYONE in the place was SCREAMING FOR BG!!! Four overtimes, and a lot of "beverages" will do that!! :-D

We also went to the ice arena to welcome the team back on Sunday night. It was SOOOO much fun!!! After the reception was over, we went to Mark's where the team would be. I remember standing there talking with Garry Galley. He had a BIG cigar in his hand and told me that he and the team hadn't slept yet; that they had been up partying since the win!!! We didn't get home until about 2:30 a.m. and I had to get up and TEACH the next morning down in Findlay!!! I am sure it wasn't my best day as a teacher....though I was still probably running on adrenaline from the weekend!!! I don't think I stopped smiling for a month!!!

CONGRATULATIONS again, to the 1984 National Championship Team!!!
FF,

Were you kinda happy that night? Sounds like it was the best time ever.

It was one of those moments in your life that sears into your brain and is never forgotten. I could go out there now and stand where Gino shot that goal. ANd I had my eyes shut

Sorry Flipper- I love you man, but the entire Lake Placid experience with the family was absolutely one of the greatest times of our lives.

YEah- 1984 Hockey was that kind of feeling.

I don't have time to live in the past- having way too much fun in the present. But it is nice to take the old memories out and dust them off once in a while.

AAF...I understand your point...I probably shouldn't have raised the issue in this particular thread. I can see how it might have a "flautlence in church" quality to it.

Sorry folks feel free to put on your "Frankie says" tshirts and time warp to 1984 all you want. Hell, I won't even complain if you wax poetic about Don Johnson and Phillip Michael Thomas... :-)

It was great but yet Im pissed. It was not reaired on any of the sports channels, Ive seen other games of the past, but not this one.
Oh well, Falcon Hockey has had the most success of any BGSU sport, and flipper is right we have been seemingly dwelling on those past successes....we this team to have that kind of year, we need to launch again! A full rink will go a long toward that, get out and get tickets and get to the games!

I haven't checked on NCAA.com, but supposedly they have a huge video library on the site. Considering how historic it was, I would think they would have it.

Nope.

At least they didn't last year at this time.

I saw the commercials advertising their "huge library" too, but when I went to the site, it didn't seem to be much of anything beyond the last year or two, and even then, a lot of focus on the big name schools and that's all.

My dad has a whole bunch of slides (yes I said slides....it was 1984 folks). I should take a look at them next time I go up to Flagstaff and visit them. As I recall we had general pictures of Lake Placid, slides from both games, Falcon Club parties at the hotel, marches to the arena with Freddie leading the way and pictures partying with the players in the hotel bar after the title game. (the one and only time I have ever seen my Mom flat out drunk...lol!!) Maybe I can scan the slides and make some jpgs or something. I haven't looked at them in at least 10 years I know that.

The "huge library" is here: http://www.ncaaondemand.com/composite_s ... ice-hockey

And they have dozens of games, going back through the '80's (and even 1950!) but no 1984. There has to be a story there somewhere.

I may be getting in touch with you for a project that theKa and I are starting to work on!!! How hard would it be to get those slides converted into a digital format?

I have alsway said that was the BEST weekend of my life! We had eight of us take a motor home to Montreal and stayed with the late Yves Pelland overnight, then went down to Lake Placid for the rest of the weekend. Beating MSU in the semi final was great, but the final was unbelievable. BG fans were so organized, primarily by Jim Harris and the Falcon Club staff, that the other school fans would watch us march in force from our "party" HQ to the arena, which was probably a mile or so, carrying flags and banners singing AZZ, Forward Falcons and any cheers we could think of. The parties before and after evey game were unbelieveable! :-D I remember a prominent banker in town at the time who VERY seldom drank, and if so, had one beer a year, going to the bar and ordering a case of beer and bringing it back to the table and sitting down for all to drink. I remember some Duluth fans coming in that were staying there and saying "you folks REALLY know how to party!". Iwill never forget the team coming to the post-game party, after the championship wearing some CRAZY hats amd smoking cigars, and then being introduced one by one and saying something to the crowd. What an unbelievable weekend and one that is impossible to forget!!!
:-D :D :-D :D :-D :D :-D :D :-D :D :-D :D :-D :D :!:

How many times did we sing "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS" that night?

Story was in the Blade and BG Sentinal. Was there even a mention in the BG News?!? Students should be proud of an NCAA championship that many may not even realize happened!!!!!!!!!!!
