I have alsway said that was the BEST weekend of my life! We had eight of us take a motor home to Montreal and stayed with the late Yves Pelland overnight, then went down to Lake Placid for the rest of the weekend. Beating MSU in the semi final was great, but the final was unbelievable. BG fans were so organized, primarily by Jim Harris and the Falcon Club staff, that the other school fans would watch us march in force from our "party" HQ to the arena, which was probably a mile or so, carrying flags and banners singing AZZ, Forward Falcons and any cheers we could think of. The parties before and after evey game were unbelieveable!

I remember a prominent banker in town at the time who VERY seldom drank, and if so, had one beer a year, going to the bar and ordering a case of beer and bringing it back to the table and sitting down for all to drink. I remember some Duluth fans coming in that were staying there and saying "you folks REALLY know how to party!". Iwill never forget the team coming to the post-game party, after the championship wearing some CRAZY hats amd smoking cigars, and then being introduced one by one and saying something to the crowd. What an unbelievable weekend and one that is impossible to forget!!!
How many times did we sing "WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS" that night?
