Next years starting quarterback?

Post by sgtrock »

According to a Cleveland PD poll, Josh seems to be the favorite for next years starting QB,overshadowing Garcia and Holcomb. I am excited for Josh and the Browns. However until they get an offensive line, all Cleveland quarterbacks are targets for inflating sack stats. :(

The job is McCown's to lose. Garcia will NOT be back. Holcolmb is unlikely to return. Josh has a great opportunity to be the #2 QB next year, which is a good spot for him to be in.

I love seeing Harris at the Browns now. It is awesome. I also like seeing him wanted to play a lot by fans. But as the starter for next year?? Nothing against Harris but I think it is a bit odd to pick the starting QB for next year when he is yet to play a down in the NFL. I would like to see him start because the Browns QB's are bad. Also give McCown time to develop. He is also a young pup. I hope Josh gets a lot of playing time this weekend. Harris first needs to get a feel for the NFL before any talk can start about who is the starter for next year.

I'm hoping that Josh does not get on the field this weekend or the rest of the year.

First, the Browns line is horrible. Playing him now is just asking for an injury.

Second, as has been discussed elsewhere on these boards, he's not ready. He came into the league much less prepared for NFL play than Big Ben because of our system. He's a great athlete and I think he's going to be a good NFL QB for a long time. But he needs to just sit back and learn the rest of this year.

I saw the title of this thread and was a bit confused at first...I thought "this is even a concern?" But realized it was about the Brownies...

I don't think Josh will be starting next year unless he just blows up next year in camp..but it will be great if he is around a long time....but just a thought in two years maybe the Browns could get another BG QB...hmmm

But if Harris start next year just think about the possible healthy line-up

QB- Harris
WR-Bryant Davis
WR/TE-Winslow
TE-Shea
RB-Suggs/Green
FB-Smith

Doesn't look to bad...now if only there was an offensive line in front of them these guys could play and win in Cleveland for a long time

Well, you're last line pretty much says it all. Without a line, it will continue to be an offense in chaos.

Not to nitpick, but I don't think you'll see Shea push Davis to the bench and Winslow to WR. But when the Browns go double TE/single back, Winslow will certainly present matcup problems.

3 points

1) I know I am one of you but I am a Bengals fan not a browns fan. THer is no way Harris starts next year for hte browns.

2) Our offense does not prepare a Qb less for the NFL then Miami's. THats just a foolish statement. However, the way that Harris ran our offense compared to how Jacobs ran it, Harris was certainly less prepared. I would argue that Jacobs is already more prepared than Harris for the NFL. He is simply more accurate and a better thrower. HE does not however have the running ability of Harris. Talk about losing recruits. Tell them that our offense isnt good for the NFL

3)You are overexagerating ht talent of the browns. They were not just miraculously 3-10. They dont have a number one WR or a true # 1 back. They have alot of talent. Its just most of it is potential. Garcia will be the BRowns starter next year. He was given a 5 year deal and they cant a fford to cut him. aAnd why would they. Draft Aaron Rogers and let him try to beat out Garcia. Garcia is a great backup and good clubouse guy to have around.

Garcia is done. Of course they can't cut him, but certainly they can find a team that needs a QB like him for what the Browns THOUGHT they needed this year. Instead, they get a guy who spends half the year bitching about not having time to figure out the offense, and by that time, injuries are piling up, the bickering starts, and then he doesn't even define himself as one of the teams leaders?

Um, see ya, Nancy Boy!!!

Use Garcia and that high draft pick to get some line help, and positioning in the draft to get even more line help and fill the holes on defense. What good will it do to keep drafting QB's in the late rounds to sit them around and say "he's got potential, but let's hope he doesn't set foot on the field until 2010"? Get the O-line set, and if a QB gets time to throw and still sucks, then he's done. Until then, the cheesecloth they're passing off as an O-line wouldn't provide even the greatest QB a decent measuring stick. (Manning would have an aneurism (sp?), since anytime he has so much as a thumbprint left on him, it was someone else's fault! )

I really think (and hope) that Winslow is a big missing piece of this offense, too, and that can't be underestimated. And even bigger is the absence of 2nd round pick Sean Taylor in the secondary. If he comes as advertised, that could fill a big need on defense, with a couple other big needs left to be filled.

It's a mess, but I have faith that the organization has learned from its mistakes of the last 5 years, and will put this team on a track to get back to AT LEAST competitive football.

Sean Taylor would be a coo as your safety. But he plays for the Redskins. His name is Sean Jones. And he may be a step slow after the injury. As a bengals fan I hope so. ANd I know he wont be as good as Madieu Williams. HEll we played him at Corner this year a bit.

Yeah, you're right... I've been getting those two backwards since April.

Putting Winslow at the WR/TE spot was just because they have the opportunity to use him as a slot receiver at any time...I just hate to leave Shea's name out of that mix because I think he can do alot to help this team...thats the only reason I really did it
