This is without a doubt the best news that has broken so far regarding this program. Only good things can happen with Jack Vivian involved.

WHAT HE SAID!! :supz:

Yes, this is FANTASIC news, both for the future of program and the arena!!! The fact that the university has brought in Jack Vivian makes a HUGE statement from the university regarding the future of the BGSU hockey program and the ice arena. It says they are committed to seeking out the best available resources to insure that BGSU Hockey and the ice arena will remain an important part of the the university and the community that supports it!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

This is fantastic news. We've gone from rumors of pulling the plug in a backroom meeting to giving the program the best fighting chance it can get with Mr. Vivian's input. Both his expertise and (I assume) desire to see BGSU Hockey succeed are great assets.

The pessimist in me sees this challenge as one of where we must have 1 million for the hockey program to save it from year to year right now, and that if its not there, the program will be in consideration for elimination. This year being the most difficult because of the other issue at hand as well. This program is far from being protected and is still residing on the chopping block, just off to the side.
I do like that she says we can raise money specifically for hockey, and to have Jack Back sure is great. Coupled with this committee there sure is hope, and very good chance of again moving the program to protected status.
I would still like to see season tickets go on sale now, with economic times as they are, being able to buy those season tickets well ahead of the season sure would likely help a lot of folks who want to help out and that is the best way they can.

* also as far as use is concerned for the rink, I know that youth hockey is suffering and has been off on numbers for some time now. Increased fans at the game would surely help that, but in a quick though, not fully complete this idea strikes me. The idea is merging or blending BGYH and SMAHL . I know SMAHL has been going to Adrian for ice over flow times, and my basic thought would be that if BGYH numbers are off strengthening that association by adding in Sylvania teams would be good for not just the kids but the rink, in that on x# of days sylvania teams would come down and practice or play games in BG, and on y# of days, BG kids would be up in sylvania. Call the greater NW ohio hockey association or what ever, but by getting more people in the rink and increasing some use times would help, as would expanding the figure skating some how like this BG figure skating club has awesome instructors, and I have to think that by some how using sylvania and the ice house as well the BG figure skating club could follow some kind of similar merger to increase numbers and usage....like I said its an early idea, and it would require alot of peoples corporation to work out and be massaged in to useful point, but its an idea.
