Thanks very much for clearing that up, I appreciate it.USGFreddie05-06 wrote:The 10 calender days language is what is currently being suggested as an amendment to the USG Constitution. Now, speaking with the experience of parsing through USG's constitution for most of my junior year, it is a poorly worded document and the section about student referenda (is that the right plural?) should be rewritten. What is now being proposed, assumed it is passed after the appropriate waiting period and approval of Dr. Whipple, is only for future votes. Quite frankly, I never thought I would see that section actually invoked.BGSU33 wrote:I guess what is confusing to me is, does the sentence "Students will now have ten academic calendar days to file a petition against a resolution passed by USG" apply to the Stroh Center topic again, or for future issues?
The Stroh Center issue is final. The Resolution passed, and it was upheld in the student vote. There are no other mechanisms in the USG constitution for nullification of a vote.
Yet another possible vote on the Stroh Center???

The online vote was clearly illegitimate. In addition to the fact that students weren't given the option of qualifying their support (e.g., "I kinda support," "I 56.823% support," etc.), some students have carpal tunnel syndrome, others have computer vision syndrome, others didn't have access to a computer with reliable internet access for the 24-hour window in question, others witnessed the pro-Stroh lobby recklessly riding bicycles and skateboards, etc.

My $.02
Mr. Steve Currie's worst transgressions are systematically whitewashed by the press. To counteract that whitewash, I will use the remainder of my space here to expose Currie for who he really is. Unless you share my view that whenever Currie wants to appear impressive and moral, he makes aggrandized declarations about how loyal he is, there's no need for you to hear me further. I acknowledge freely and make no apology for the fact that I once considered it reasonable for crotchety skinheads to impose a "glass ceiling" that limits our opportunities for promotions in most jobs. But now I know that if he thinks his campaigns of malice and malignity represent progress, Currie should rethink his definition of progress.
The devil not only finds too much mischief for idle hands to do but increasingly in our contemporary world he causes malicious, conceited scumbags to push our efforts two steps backward. I don't believe that power corrupts Currie but that Currie corrupts power. Speaking of corruption and power, Currie likes to compare his whinges to those that shaped this nation. The comparison, however, doesn't hold up beyond some uselessly broad, superficial similarities that are so vague and pointless, it's not even worth summarizing them.
Maybe it's not fair to call Currie's spokesmen "apolaustic" just because they deny citizens the ability to become informed about the destruction that he is capable of but remember that when I first became aware of Currie's covert invasion into our thought processes, all I could think was how honor means nothing to Currie. Principles mean nothing to Currie. All he cares about is how best to overthrow democratic political systems. He has never gotten ahead because of his hard work or innovative ideas. Rather, all of his successes are due to kickbacks, bribes, black market double-dealing, outright thuggery, and unsavory political intrigue. I believe I have found my calling. My calling is to rage, rage against the dying of the light. And just let him try and stop me.
Although the destructiveness of Currie's complaints has been chronicled elsewhere in great and tedious detail it fits too neatly into my thesis to overlook. Hence, I shall chronicle it here as well but only as a quick comment that the very genesis of Currie's obdurate harangues is in onanism. And it seems to me to be a neat bit of historic justice that he will eventually himself be destroyed by onanism. According to the laws of probability, Currie keeps insisting that his opinions represent the opinions of the majority—or even a plurality. To me, there is something fundamentally wrong with that story. Maybe it's that I would indeed like to comment on Currie's attempt to associate racialism with mandarinism. There is no association.
Currie thinks that you and I are morally inferior to biggety smut peddlers (especially the bleeding-heart type). However, he backstabs his expositors. It may not seem to be very important right now, but I am reminded of the quote, "He is swinging pretty hard on some slender evidence." This comment is not as lascivious as it seems because it is easy to see faults in others. But it takes perseverance to explain a few facets of this confusing world around us. Take a good, close look at yourself, Currie. What you'll probably find is that you're morally questionable. Although Mr. Steve Currie broadens his appeal by seeking influence and adherents in the neocolonialism movement, we are here to gain our voice in this world, and whether or not Currie approves, we will continue to be heard.

It seems they are taking issue with the phrase "Pro-Stroh, Vote No". They feel that by making it seem like you don't support the Stroh Center if you voted Yes. They conveniently leave out that, by voting Yes, you are in fact refusing to support the Stroh Center, at least financially. Most would argue that this is the most important kind of support it can get. Anyone can support something in spirit, but if no one supports it financially, it won't get done.

They've been saying that the big, bad University and that malicious behemoth Carol Cartwright tricked students into thinking that if they voted "yes", the Stroh would not be built.
In reality, there was at least one completely unbiased campus-wide email sent which detailed precisely what a yes or no vote meant, the University's own Stroh Center Fact Sheet said it would be built regardless, and students had to see the same information twice more in order to vote.
These kids are reaching beyond all reason to try to stop this project. They have no concept of reality.
One person, who will remain nameless because they are too much of a coward to come out from behind an internet pseudonym, not only called out me and my brother as supposed "mindless slaves to the administration" (or something to that effect) but then tried to make a comparison between Saddam Hussein and Kim Jong Il and USG members who ran unopposed.
It's frightening how detached from reality some of these children are.

It also said right below the yes and no options that this vote would NOT effect if the building was builtPeregrinner wrote:They've been saying that the big, bad University and that malicious behemoth Carol Cartwright tricked students into thinking that if they voted "yes", the Stroh would not be built.

Dear those still complaining, its called reading, I'm pretty sure you are able to perform this novel concept, otherwise you wouldn't be in college.
And to those saying the university pressured them into voting no when they were gonna vote yes, thats your own damn fault for letting someone else change how you were going to vote

Embarrassing. Too much media. Not enough experience or real world exposure. Oh ... enjoy reading ... "Informed Voter" makes an incredible ass of himself/herself while I point out many of his/her flaws in a true MarkL-esque way and Terry has problems with posting stuff online yet sums up his arguments very well with statements such as "you're wrong" and rips on him/her for not having the balls to post his/her actual name.
And Terry - are you trying to post urls? A lot of sites like this won't allow it in case you are a bot and are posting links to ads/spam/porn. If that's the problem, apparently you can post without the http and www - CS major did that and it seems to work fine.
MarkL has spoken.
