This article is by Hack, but is it what you are talking about? I can't find anything by Walton at the Blade site.

Either way, this is a good article, and it is truly a shame that BG never retired Butch's number before he passed. It is an honor that is long overdue, and needs to happen as soon as possible in his memory.

Quite frankly, BG does a piss-poor job of honoring our greats in all sports, especially in retiring numbers in my opinion.

36.7 PPG is absolutely insane. That is well over half of the 2008 Falcons team average. A true great who deserves to be honored as such. An idea: Retire his jersey on opening night at the Stroh Center

I'd say it would be more appropriate to do it in Anderson Arena.

Honoring the past seems to have an increased priority, though I think they're trying to find the best way to do so (GC has said as much in the past). It will also be a big part of the Stroh Center.

How about the last game at Anderson then?

I think they should do it before the last game as the last game at AA should be a celebration of Falcon basketball as a whole. He should receive his own night of celebration sometime before AA sees its last basketball game

That's what I was thinking.

A column with a problem, AND a legitimate solution getting Shane to come back to help. That is probably the best plan I've heard to do that yet.

Hopefully Mawel Soler won't be upset his name isn't on the banner instead if/when it happens :D

Here we go again:

Our 'honor' policy at BGSU is respectful, classy and exactly how it should be done.

The second you retire his number you'll see letters demanding the Arena be named after him and proposing other numbers that just *must* be added to the rafters. It's never enough for some people and can get out of hand fast; just ask Syracuse.
