I'm kind of in this boat. Not to mention, I kind of like BG being the only Ohio school to win a national championship.

Also, I've always thought BU's mascot/logo looks like our youngest dog.

But, I'm not going to make fun of the 'special' among us. :-D

Most years I'd agree with you, but this year I think it'd be an extra slap in the face to our athletic department to have a MAC school, that has Football, Men's and Women's Basketball, AND HOCKEY win the National Championship. I mean, if another university in Ohio can manage to fund all those without near the amount of potential donors as BG has.......

The value of Miami's endowment fund (as of 2007) $409,271,000
The value of BG's endowment at that same time 140,766,000
Realizing that these number are two years old, and that most have taken a beating with the decline in the stock market...here lies the real reason why the entire school is having trouble weathering the current financial downturn.

I mentioned "potential" donors for a reason. I don't know the exact numbers, but I'm pretty sure BG has quite a few more NHLers than Miami.

While we have HAD more players make it to the NHL, both schools have the same number CURRENTLY on NHL rosters:

MIAMI
Kevyn Adams (Chicago)
Dan Boyle (San Jose)
Andy Greene (NewJersey)
Ryan Jones (Nashville)

BG
Kevin Bieksa (Vancouver)
Rob Blake (SanJose)
Greg DeVries (Nashville)
Ken Klee (Phoenix)

Man, tough blow for Miami. I hate the Skinhawks, but I can't imagine how much it sucks to be so close and have a title ripped away. Still, Miami has nothing to be ashamed of. They made a fantastic run to the Frozen Four, and played their tails off in the title game against a very, very good opponent.

Once we get our arena taken care of, I hope we can be in a position to lose in a national championship game. :-)

And BUi wins it in OT.

Unbelievable game. I know of one BG alumnus who was in attendance. I'm jealous.

Wow. Just wow.

I hate the idea of "rooting for a conference." All "conference A is better than conference B" debates are pointless anyway. I don't see how Miami winning that game because they are in CCHA can benefit BG. It would make the league look good sure, but who really cares? Next season it all starts over again anyway, so I don't see how Miami winning could've remotely helped us. I'm more concerned with BG looking good than the CCHA looking good.

"Rooting for a conference" sucks. I never want our rivals to win unless it can directly help us, and I was thrilled Miami lost and more thrilled they choked so hard. I don't like them because they are a conference rival. There's also only one Ohio school to win a National Title in hockey, and it sure as s**t ain't Ohio State. I like still having that intact too.

The worst offenders of "rooting for a conference" are Big Ten football fans, who are so insecure about Ohio State's annual ass-whipping on the national stage in BCS games that they actually root for each other against non-conference teams. Screw that! Your rivals are your rivals for a reason...

Feels good to get that off my chest.
