These are great choices for a number of reasons...let's start at the top...
Jack Vivian- Mr. Vivian was there when the program started and obviously would have connections in that manner. Secondly, he is well respected in the hockey community. Another thing is that we're all well aware of is that Mr. Vivian does this for a living. This is what his company does. The company comes in and "saves" programs and arenas.
Jill Carr- I'm not as aware of this person, but I believe she has in the past been involved in Resident Life at the University.
Ron Mason- What can I say? Besides being one of the most successful coaches in College Hockey History, he is also a former BGSU coach. While I've spent most of my life being irritated with him and the egg suckers for stealing him, the fact that he wants to be involved says a lot about him and how fondly he feels about his time in BG. Ron Mason knows what it takes to run a successful program on the team level and of course he was recently AD at MSU...so he knows what it takes to run the department too. Hmm....wonder how expensive he'd be to get as coach?? JUST KIDDING!
John Quinn- Mayor of Bowling Green. His involvement is crucial to show that this arena is not just a BGSU building. That the team and the arena being allowed to fall to this point have and will continue to have an impact on the city. Mayor Quinn is a stand-up guy and I respect him greatly.
Dave Ellett- Well, what can one say? Member of the 1984 championship team, former NHL player, etc. He has in the past given generously of his time and effort to the program. He KNOWS what it was like back in the day and I'm sure would have insight on how to bring that feeling back.
Paul Windsch- Paul is a local guy. A former Banker. A current (former?) longtime season ticket holder. His son played hockey in BGYHA and BGHS. A great choice.
I hope this helps to answer your questions BGWheelhorse. These choices are great! I had feared that this committee would be filled with yes-men for the University...not at all! It's by far the most positive news in a very tough week for BGSU hockey.
GO FALCONS!

I didn't know some of the other names involved (though Jill Carr's name sounds familiar and I was pretty sure Quinn was mayor, but not sure), but after reading your listing, Erika, they did an outstanding job forming this committee. I really hope they can get the job done.

Jill Carr is the current Dean of Students, and has spent most of her time in the student life office. She has lived/worked in BG for more than 20 years and is a great asset to the committee. She is exactly the type of university person you want to have on your side.TheKa wrote:These are great choices for a number of reasons...let's start at the top...

Then she's been around long enough to know and appreciate the history of the Falcon Hockey program and THAT IS A GOOD THING!!! I am THRILLED with the make up of this committee! To me, that shows that the University is making a commitment to finding the right solution to this situation!!USGFreddie05-06 wrote:Jill Carr is the current Dean of Students, and has spent most of her time in the student life office. FALCON HOCKEY FOREVER!!!!!
"Regarding BGSU, I would think their biggest strength is that they never give up, They never slow down and they battle hard even after the other team scores. We have to be on our game and never, ever take the foot off the gas for a second."

"BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

Dr Whipple
According to the Sentinel, Dr. Whipple will be the head of this group. Is he favorable to the program or not?
Plus how many studies had BGSU done on the ice arena? My understanding is they never acted upon the results from the earlier studies.
Seems to me there are a lot of chiefs in this group and no indians. I am encouraged with Vivian, Mason, and Ellett on the board, but wonder about the mayor's selection and Mr. Windisch. Are these guys in the ice arena enough to know what is going on with the Falcons as well as BGYHA, the skating club and curling?

Re: Dr Whipple
The mayor is involved because this committee is not just about the hockey team. It's about the Ice Arena. His involvement shows how important the building is to the community, not just the University.bgwheelhorse wrote:According to the Sentinel, Dr. Whipple will be the head of this group. Phi or Die
I hate to say this but Freddie is probably correct. We should write to Dr. Cartwright and say thank you.
Yes we have been through many studies, but his study will be due to be concluded Mid - May. I am sure the fiscal information is at someone finger tips. You know that the ice equipment, sound and light information is all ready prepared. The arhitectural designs are in place - maybe some slight refining.
Now all we need is a little money. Hopefully the alumni, the community, the city and corporate friends can can move us toward phase # 2 and 3.
This will take a few years to raise the pledges, the money, and the steel.
I will do my $ part.
The coaches can soon go out recruiting with a new story and whole new life to BGSU Hockey
Humm National Champions in 1884 and 2014 sounds good to me, I'll live that long.
We still have a lot of work to do!

Re: Dr Whipple
Not entirely sure, but he was very helpful in getting the Stroh Center referendum rejected, and he set aside a total of 800 tickets for students to WNIT games. I think he will do a fine job in acting in the best interests of students, fans and alumnibgwheelhorse wrote:According to the Sentinel, Dr. Whipple will be the head of this group.
