Do we need to worry?

Post by Class of 61 »

Saw in the PD today that Cincy's women's Bball coach was just fired after a couple of pretty dismal seasons.... do we need to worry about Curt getting an offer to coach in the B.East? Seems as if he's been passed up by a couple of the "power" schools recently, but this one scares me a bit, to say the least.

Honestly, I don't think we need to worry at all. I'm not saying that Curt wouldn't apply, especially when there isn't a lot of movement so far this year. But I believe that if he does leave, we will be in good hands. I think that as long as Coach Roos steps in as a HC, everything will be ok. I don't know if UC is a job that Curt wants though. They fired Kelley after two seasons. I know he didn't do well in conference play, but most schools give you three years to improve. I think that UC has unrealistic expectations of competing in that conference. Just because they had a winning mens program at one time, that doesn't mean that they can compete in women's basketball. Do I think that they should be able to get kids in that can make the WNIT every year, and hopefully get into the tournament every now and then, yes. But that conference is so deep, and with UCONN at the top, it's not a good job. I think that Curt will be better suited to wait for something in the Big Ten to open up, I think his style is better suited for that conference. I know we were able to beat Syracuse in the WNIT, but that won't be enough for the UC administration. I would be more worried about Coach Roos possibly getting a job at somewhere like Southern Illinois or Manhattan. They are schools that are great jobs for your first head coaching opportunity. I don't know if she would want either of those schools, but that is what I would worry about right now.

I wouldn't be scared because he said no to this job two years ago after the Sweet 16 run

When Coach Miller has accomplished all that he can at BG then we'll need to worry. I think this program is still growing and Coach Miller is still raising the bar. Also the MAC is really making strides and we could see the multiple conference bids for the women in the near future.

Remember not every situation lends itself to growing a women's basketball program like BG. There is something unique about our university and community that makes this program so rich in people. Great coaches at the wrong university often fail at no fault of their own.

Five-time MAC champs, three-time MAC tournament champions, sweet sixteen apperance in NCAA tournament and a top 15 national ranking. And, he's done it with two different groups of players.

Not sure what he's got left to accomplish at BG other than his continued legacy?

University of Cincinnati is BROKE (recently cutting 3 teams)... they have no money, so I doubt they are willing to pony up the cash to lure Curt away.

This is like the rising and setting of the sun, J4H. The same speculation is going to occur every April, and we probably just need to get used to ignoring it.

It's freakin' retarded. If he interviews somewhere at some point, fine, let's talk about it. Let's not open up a new thread and hash out the same stupid argument over and over every time a job opens up. It gets everybody all up in arms for absolutely no good reason.

Believe me, I understand everything you are saying. Still, if there is one thing that I have learned from this board, it is that the sky is always falling for someone, somewhere. But, individual idiocy aside, the sky rarely is falling, and even if it does, whatever is happening is more likely than not and opportunity to move forward positively. This is what a lot of the "Internet gurus" don't understand, and probably never will, no matter how much evidence is laid before them.

Is it retarded? Yes. Is there any sense in allowing it to frustrate you? Absolutely not.

And just as an aside, it has become totally freaking hilarious to me that every time a job opens up at Cincinnati the "HOLY CRAP! COACH xxxx MIGHT GO TO UC!" threads pop up in the 'appropriate' forum. It seems to happen like clockwork anymore. Very, very stupid clockwork.
