2009 5'6" PG Jordan Crawford (BGSU Verbal Commit)

Post by mollautt »

=>Lasalle H.S. 5'6" waterbug PG has been let out of his commitment to DII Ashland and instead will attend BGSU with h.s. teammate Danny McElroy.

Will be one of the shortest players in DI, but he is quick as a cat.

Will probably strengthen our PG position, but I'm a bit surprised that we weren't after a true "BIG"...with most of our current big guys only having a year of eligibility left... a 6'9" kid from Walsh Jesuit just verballed to Wm and Mary according to the PD.

He better be quicker than lightening if he is to make an impact at the Div.1 level here. Anyone else seen him or know what his skills are. Hope he can shoot outside, shoot FT's and slash and drive to basket and handle the ball extremely well.

This gives new meaning to the phrase "small ball". I'm a little worried about next year. It seems like we are starting to become a team full of guards, with only 1 or 2 decent post players

Let's remember that this kid led his team in scoring. That team was one of the best in Ohio and went toe-to-toe with Cin. Princeton, a team with 2 Ohio top 10s and a junior OSU verbal who's a top 100 recruit nationally.

There was a kid by the name of Earl Boykins at Eastern Michigan who was 5-6 and indomitable. So, let's not get down on him about his height.

Guys like this are great to have on the roster. There are times when ball control is crucial, like against full court pressure and half court sets late in a tight game.

Two things:
1. I'm assuming he'll be on scholarship. Does anybody actually KNOW?
2. This fills our last remain scholarship vacancy unless someone else is leaving. (Personally, I have a hunch that someone actually is leaving.)

...we have 2 centers and four guys that can rotate in the 4 spot. However, 3 of these 6 guys will be seniors. We'll be OK down low for the upcoming year but will need to recruit new post players hard.

That's not true, but so what if it is? I've seen teams win NCAA championships with 4 guards and a PF/C. It's college ball, and we are in the MAC. I'll take a 5'6 speedster that can score any day. If you want my opinion, speed is what this team has really been lacking. Orr knows what he is doing. Until he shows signs that he doesn't, no one should doubt this program anymore.

I don't think that's the style Coach Orr wants to play. But, I do get your point, there could be some more transition baskets.

Does anybody remember Earl Boykins from EMU? Possibly 5'6" in really thick socks, but tore it up! Led EMU to several post season tournaments and had a nice career in the NBA, currently playing overseas, I believe. The first time I saw him, while I was attending EMU, working in the athletic dept., I thought he was somebody's (a player on the team) kid brother! However, he could shoot dish and play ball like nobody's business!

If this kid is similar at all, we will be getting a whale of a player!
