Frozen Four 2010 at Ford Field

I need advice, I am trying to buy Frozen Four tickets for next year. However, after calling the CCHA office, the rink will be right in the middle of the football field. This seems like a crappy set up. How can the seats close to the ice (ie; on the football field) be raised up because they then block out the view of the folks behind. $189 is a lot to pay if everyone close to the ice is at the same level. Does this make sense? I am also buying them for friends from way out of town so I want to make sure they are decent seats. Any advice/feedback would be appreciated.

Many of us go to the FF every year, and everyone I've spoken to so far is not looking forward to Ford Field.

I'm incredibly ticked at the decision to play the FF at Ford Field. I'm finally in a place (geographically and financially) to go to the championship and they go with this stupid stunt. I'm going to the regionals in Fort Wayne instead and save (quite) a few bucks. The War Memorial Coliseum is one of the best hockey arenas I've ever been to.

I grew up going to The Coliseum... My family used to have season tickets to the Komets games and I can tell you that it is indeed a great place to watch a hockey game. Now that I know there will be some college hockey in Ft. Wayne I might have to make a trip home to catch a game or two

I grew up at the Sports Arena in Toledo watching the Goaldiggers. We hated the Komets with a white hot passion and loved to make the road trips to FW and annoy the fans there. We'd always go to Hall's for burgers and milkshakes after the game.

Clearly the feedback I have gotten from multiple sources is NOT to spend almost $200 on a ticket for 3 games because the seats close to the ice will not be good. The regional in Ft. Wayne sounds much more appealing.

If you do decide to get tickets, the procedure for entering the lottery is on the NCAA's website. As a poor person, I must state that the lottery process is not appealing to me.

If you decide to go and not to enter the lottery (or dont get any tickets that way) you can usually get them at the site in the months prior to the game. You are taking a risk that way though; depending on what teams make it, you might run into problems finding tickets (2000 in Providence, 2002 in Minnesota and 2006 in Milwaukee are perfect examples of this. Esp. Providence...I could have gotten a pretty penny for my championship ticket had I decided to sell it to a BC fan that drove down for the day hoping to score a seat).

After all that though, I also recommend going to the Ft Wayne regional. Great building to watch a game and the quality of the games will be superb. Plus, the upset of the tournament usually happens at a regional (Holy Cross over Minnesota in 2006... any non-BU first seed this year).

Anyways, I do hope you decide to attend some NCAA Tournament action next season. They're wicked fun.

Never got to see the Goaldiggers as they weren't in the league when I was growing up...at least not that I can remember, I just remember the big rivals of the Komets being The Kalamazoo Wings, Indianapolis Ice and Cleveland Lumberjacks. Granted I was there during the big boom that led to the large market cities and ultimately the demise of the IHL.

Anyway... For those of you who haven't been to the Coliseum, it's in a great location, tons of parking, Glenbrook mall is only a block or so away, and there are pleanty of restaraunts nearby, heck Hooters is practically right across the street...

They did reconfigure Ford Field for the Frozen Four and now the ice will be down at one end facing sideline to sideline. This will be much better.

Yeah, I saw that.
The news release said it was because of 'the economy'. I interpreted that to mean the NCAA didn't get nearly the number of lottery applications they were hoping for.

Have been to most of the FF's since '84, but didn't apply for the 2010 lottery because of the Ford Field "gimmick." From what I understand sales were much below expectations so ticket policies were relaxed and the ice layout reconfigured. I, too, opted for the regionals in Ft. Wayne. Next year the FF is in St. Paul ... been there, done that so I may opt for the regionals in St. Louis. Had a great time there a few years ago when the Spartans won it all, and it will be way more economical than the FF. Ya, around $200 for the FF three-game package, and they hold your money from application onward to collect interest (principal returned if you don't make the cut). I just looked at the stub of my ticket to the BG-UMD final in '84 ... $7.48 + .52 tax. I know there's inflation, but give me a break (mumblings of a grumpy old man).

$7.48 for a FF ticket in '84. Wow! I am certain Ticket "Racket" Master charged me over $200 for the 3 games at FF. That does include parking at Ford Field and tickets to the Friday skills event.
