Undrafted free agents

Post by tiznow »

I saw a partial list of undrafted free agents who signed with teams today. I did not see Diyral Briggs on any list. I definitely thought he would get a free agent look.

I also saw over the weekend, I believe on Fox Website that they had Briggs and Haneline listed as players that could get FA offers.

Here is the most extensive list I could find. No mention of Antonio Smith or any other Falcons...

Sometimes players get invited to the mini-camp but are only there for a try out and are not truly UDFA's.

I really hope these Falcons get a chance to latch on somewhere. Look at Steve Sanders...tried year after year and finally got a contract with an NFL team...sort of...just kidding SS...the NFL is the NFL, even if the team doesn't win.

I thought Briggs would at least get a camp invite, but if he doesn't it's not terribly surprising. He played DE in college and 3-4 OLB was his only shot to play anywhere in the NFL. Unfortunately for him he's also way undersized even for that spot. He was a good pass rusher and athlete for us, but it's probably not likely that he would have been able to add the bulk needed and still show the speed/quickness to play LB in the NFL (if he even had that quickness before bulking up).

I wish all of our guys the best, but I said during the season, and still believe it to be true, that there was not any NFL talent graduating off this team last year.

Some of the draft sites did not even list Briggs.

Report from my son is that Briggs is headed to the 49ers and Smith has indeed signed with the Browns.

The 49ers scout, Ethan Waugh, was at the Miami game and blogged about what he expected to see out of Briggs in that game.
