I just lost a lot of respect for Wilbon for a statement like that. My 4-year-old son thought it was a real football game between the Buckeyes and the Buckeyes. As far as I am concerned, there was nothing better to do on Saturday. We were outside on a perfect day and my son had a great time. The only thing better would have been if we went up to BG for the BG spring game but our child care center was having a tailgate party so our kids were able to enjoy the game with several other kids their age.moneymaker02 wrote:in other news on pti they discussed this and how popular football is in columbus and then at the end wilbon said something along the lines of, "they're idiots, do something better with your saturday than watch a football practice"
The spring game is an opportunity for a lot of people to go to a game and Ohio Stadium, primarily kids, and not pay $60 or more. And as was discussed before, OSU gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to charity as a result of this football practice.

Weren't the Clippers home on Saturday? Seems like you could have had an outdoor, family-friendly, reaasonbly priced experience there. And would have seen a real game, not just practice.98_BG_GRAD wrote:. . . As far as I am concerned, there was nothing better to do on Saturday. Maybe the guy doesn't like baseball. Maybe the guy really likes football and when you have a chance to see football you take it. Man, I know just about everyone on here hates Ohio State but lighten up. Quit judging people for things like this. There is no rule that says if you are a Falcon fan you can't be an OSU fan. I am both, but BG is definitely #1 in my book. That doesn't mean I'm not going to throw on an OSU jersey every once in awhile. And San Fran, thank you for once again showing your true maturity level.

Actually went to the Clippers game on Sunday so we got both in last weekend. We have a partial season ticket plan for the Clippers so we'll go to a few games this summer and we can pretty much take our kids to a Clippers game anytime we want. I can't decide one morning that I want to take my kids to Ohio Stadium for a game like I can for a Clippers game and even if I could get tickets to an OSU game, I can't afford to spend $60+ for my 4-year-old to go to a game.Lord_Byron wrote:Weren't the Clippers home on Saturday? And again, my 4-year-old, although a huge sports fan no matter who is playing, doesn't understand that the spring game was not a real game. He thought it was a real game between the red team and the white team. Is it a crime that I didn't try and explain spring practice to him?

Agree VDub and I am also a BG alum and an OSU fan (and don't worry, BG will always be #1 and when BG has played OSU, there is not a hint of OSU on or near me). Last time I checked people can be fans of two teams in the same sport. I am a Cardinals fan and an Indians fan, people don't seem to judge me on that. My son is also a fan of both but I promise you if you ask him who is favorite team is, he will say Bowling Green. If he has a choice, he will pick his BG clothes to wear over his OSU clothes. When he is playing baseball, football, hockey, soccer or any other sport outside, or in the house, he is almost always on "Bowling Green".VDub26Falcon wrote:Maybe the guy doesn't like baseball. There are only 12 Buckeye football Saturdays a year plus 1 spring game. That leaves over 30 more Saturdays to do "something better".
Apparently Wilbon is against supporting charity, people taking the only opportunity they have to see their Buckeyes, and attending a cheap family friendly event.
Either that or he is just jealous that Northwestern football will never be what OSU football is.
Kind of like you guys.

Nobody is perfect and certainly your team has issues. OSU's are noticeable only because of who they are while your teams issues go relatively unnoticed.
Coach can't baby sit everyone and can only do so much to controll his players actions. Bottom line is that they are kids who are on their own for the first time in their lives and some will make mistakes. You probably have a kid or two (or more) and I am willing to bet they are not perfect either whether you want to admit it or not.
Chances are they drank underage or even if they were of age drove legally drunk. They just didnt get caught.
Sadly you reference a lot of happenings of people who mostly aren't even on this team which is the focus of this thread, THIS YEARS SPRING GAME involving THIS YEARS PLAYERS.
Think you could do better than Tressell having only a bad apple or two a year out of all of those scholly players plus a few walk ons? You don't think your team has issues off the field?
Certainly we know BG players have had issues. I am sure we can dig up some on Miami. Count on it.
Get over your pathetic self.
Your statement was ridiculous.

+1 guys. I love Ohio State. I can't comprehend how ppl can have so much hate towards them (unless they are Fishigan mans). BUTTTTT, BG is always #1.

For me, "hatred" of tOSU came from years of not being a fan, but everyone assuming I was, as well as fans like Teke who think (or at least act like they think) that the Buckeyes are God's gift to football. If I were a fan, I wouldn't mind it, but when you're not one, and you feel constantly marginalized... For example, a few years back, I wanted to get my dad some kind of cool Reds merchandise for Father's Day. I went to a sports memorabilia/merchandise shop in a mall near our house the Dayton area, and had a very hard time finding anything for all the OSU football memorabilia that took up over half the store, in the middle of baseball season. If it were specifically an OSU store (of which there is one in the same mall), I would have understood, but Cincinnati is more or less just as far away as Columbus from that store, and it really surprised and put me off how hard it was to find Reds stuff during baseball season.BgWaRrIoR wrote: +1 guys. Basically, what it comes down to is that over the course of my life thus far, I just got sick of hearing about Ohio State and how good they supposedly were. It's similar to the way I feel about the Yankees. There are obviously fewer people assuming I'm a fan, but still, there's that sense of smug-ness about them that just irritates me.
Some of my best friends are Buckeye fans, and I have no true deep-seeded problem with the school or their sports teams. I just get tired of seemingly always hearing about them at the cost of the teams I do care about. Maybe that'll help you comprehend why people hate tOSU.
But I will agree with people's assertions that there is nothing wrong with someone being a fan of more than one team in a given sport/league. As I've said numerous times already, I love BG, but I like Tennessee too. Speaking of whom, they also charged $5 for entrance into their Spring Game. I see nothing wrong with that price when you're talking about BCS programs, personally. If BG had that much name-recognition, I'd not be surprised if we charged a very small ticket price either.
*Waits for Teke to come in and tell me how I'm just jealous of the Buckeyes after mentioning anything about them that wasn't deep worship and/or quasi-homoerotic lust for men in red sweater vests.*
