Bikini - Its called a history of past events, will give you an idea of future results. Your coach cares more about winning then character and integrity of his recruits. .Keep making excuses, but these are your players that represent your school. If they get to wear the scarlet and gray then they are part of buckeye nation.

Winning at any cost leaves you susceptible to these problems.

You obviously didn't read my thread.

Every team has players who get in trouble, period. Even Miami (OH)

Every team has had players get in trouble in the past and every team will have players who get in trouble in the future. Even Miami (OH).

It is the way it goes. It is this thing called life.

So what is your point? You can't single Ohio State out on this one. Tressell has a group of high quality individuals on his teams. You can't fault him for a few bad ones that make the news. If you were the coach, you wouldn't have a team of 100% angels either.

Do you want to keep this argument going? You will lose.

Here is an article from one player with two of the very charges you mentioned in regards of OSU players. Here is ONE player with Burglary AND Assault.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3419479

Who can forget this embarassment for your school when one of your coaches was arrested after a football game in 2002. He assaulted a fan after Marshall beat you in the final seconds.

I know, Woody hit a Clemson player...but gee it looks like your school isn't any better in this department.

Here is some BG arrest action:

Burglary http://www.wtol.com/global/story.asp?S=8418116

We know Toledo has had a bunch.

I could go on and on and these are just the ones that I have found in the 5 minutes I have spent looking for them before I got to bed.

point is everybody has arrests.

If Tressell only cared about winning then explain why Clarrett never saw the field again when his allegations (which proved to be false) were brought up? he suspended him for an entire season and nothing was even proven.

Why did Troy Smith miss the alamo bowl for taking $500 and paying it back if Tressell only cared about winning? Tressell has been quick, sometimes too quick, to suspend players for their legal troubles.

For me, "hatred" of tOSU came from years of not being a fan, but everyone assuming I was, as well as fans like Teke who think (or at least act like they think) that the Buckeyes are God's gift to football. If I were a fan, I wouldn't mind it, but when you're not one, and you feel constantly marginalized... For example, a few years back, I wanted to get my dad some kind of cool Reds merchandise for Father's Day. I went to a sports memorabilia/merchandise shop in a mall near our house the Dayton area, and had a very hard time finding anything for all the OSU football memorabilia that took up over half the store, in the middle of baseball season. If it were specifically an OSU store (of which there is one in the same mall), I would have understood, but Cincinnati is more or less just as far away as Columbus from that store, and it really surprised and put me off how hard it was to find Reds stuff during baseball season.

Basically, what it comes down to is that over the course of my life thus far, I just got sick of hearing about Ohio State and how good they supposedly were. It's similar to the way I feel about the Yankees. There are obviously fewer people assuming I'm a fan, but still, there's that sense of smug-ness about them that just irritates me.

Some of my best friends are Buckeye fans, and I have no true deep-seeded problem with the school or their sports teams. I just get tired of seemingly always hearing about them at the cost of the teams I do care about. Maybe that'll help you comprehend why people hate tOSU.

But I will agree with people's assertions that there is nothing wrong with someone being a fan of more than one team in a given sport/league. As I've said numerous times already, I love BG, but I like Tennessee too. Speaking of whom, they also charged $5 for entrance into their Spring Game. I see nothing wrong with that price when you're talking about BCS programs, personally. If BG had that much name-recognition, I'd not be surprised if we charged a very small ticket price either.

*Waits for Teke to come in and tell me how I'm just jealous of the Buckeyes after mentioning anything about them that wasn't deep worship and/or quasi-homoerotic lust for men in red sweater vests.*
+1 to everything you said. it's hard for people to understand how people who arent fans don't like osu. coming from out of state i had no feelings towards osu at all, was completely non-biased towards them. i even cheered for them to beat miami in the championship freshmen year because i was a life long florida state fan. but the thing that got me was the repeated deer in head lights look followed by the phrase, "how can u not like osu, u live in ohio now." that was the worst, and then after seeing how obnoxious and disrespectful they were towards every other program in the nation it was too much. Also only 2 schools exist for them, if they find out you arent an osu fan, they say, "oh so u like michigan." needless to say, moving back to charlotte has eased my tension towards osu because its not in my face every day and most people just consider the big10 as a whole a joke down here.

I don't keep track of these things... however this is the third current buckeye in a month to get in trouble.

The problem isn't a single instance of an event occurring it is the repetitive nature of these activities and the lack of change instituted by the coaching staff to resolve these problems.

Third? Who were the other 2? Sounds like you are making things up this why you sound childish and ignorant with your only Ohio state does wrong everyone else is perfect attitude. It's always someone else fault with you isn't it? Everyone has the same mission statement and I am glad you care so much about Osu's to look it up and post it for us. If you think this only happens at Osu then you are blind or selective reading/hearing/comprehension because you act like it never happens anywhere else. You act like like it's only a big deal because it is osu. That's a double standard. I am sure it's in a mission statement that members of the university staff will act responsibly but that didn't stop a Miami Ohio coach from punching fans in the face.

The worst thing about that is the coaches are suppsed to be the role models for their players.

When did I say any of it was acceptable? I said it is impossible for a coach to babysit over 85 kids who are on their own for the first time in their lives.

You don't have 85 kids and I garuntee you are not a perfect parent either. I garuntee your kids have done illegal things that you don't know about if they are over 16. Put youself in the coaches shoes. Could you do better? You are lying if you think you can have a team where no one gets in trouble!

The school is not the kids parents so don't blame them that's a bs cop out just to make a bogus point. The kids are who they are and the coaches aren't allowed to have enough time to really get to know them.

If anything you should congratulate tressel on how well he turns the bad ones around. He did wonders with troy smith.

On a final note it really shows your maturity level to quote me and change the words that I actually said into your own.

Loser

You stink of jealousy it's frickin ridiculous. Could you care anymore about Ohio state? You can't even go one day without talkin about them. Come out of the closet. You don't need to be a closet buckeye fan anymore.

You are making one sided assumptions and assumptions are the mother of all f**k ups.

He could have been reinstated but he still sat the entire season.

Also there would not have been any punishment from NCAA for 500 bucks. That was all tressel dishing out punishment for wrong doing. The NCAA won't punish USC for bush family getting benefits then they won't punish anyone over 500 dollars. They wouldn't even look at it

Alex Boone seemed to have learned nothing under JT... nor did Donte Whitner... or for that matter Santonio Holmes seems to like to smoke the reefer.

I don't care what happens at Texas, Florida, or any other program because those programs aren't shoved down my throat as the greatest thing since the creation of the Ipod. The fact that you point to other programs, and saying that this is common behavior, implies that its acceptable.

18 yearsold are not kids, they are men, they are men when they are given money to attend school and play football. They are men when they make their decisions, and as a country we need to stop treating them as children. We need real penalties and consequences for actions.

Do you know how they discipline buckeye football players? I do. They have to get on the phone with JT in the office and call mom & dad, to tell them that there are no football tickets for them and their family members for an up coming game. They get benched for a quarter or two depending on how important you are. There is more leeway the more talented the player. And this comes from the head of the athletic department.

If there were isolated incidents, then no big deal, but there is obviously something flawed with the recruiting and discipline process when your "kids" continue to make the same mistake time and again and other players don't learn from others mistakes.

Mission statements are great, but stand for nothing, like your coach, when you lack the spine to actually follow through with real consequences for being a dumba$$.

Tiki Torch - you should be embarrassed every time your players f up. You should be embarrassed that you support that program and coach. Obviously it will take a rape or vehicular manslaughter before you take off the scarlet and gray for a day or two and realize that there are problems.

I'd expect more from you, but your constant passing of the buck, long list of excuses shows that you lack the mental fortitude to have integrity, morals, and ethics. I am sure this is serving you and your family well.

Lawyers are really garbage men in disguise as they clean up your mess. If you have enough money, your mess will always be taken care of. Do you have enough money?

That is not an accurate assumption and sounds like the typical osu/Big Ten superiority attitude. Current Falcon Football player, Marc Stevens had to pay a fine to the NCAA for taking stopping by our AZZ tailgate and having some food with us the year before he came to BG. He had already committed to BG and had been reading our board. He was excited to come and meet some of the Falcon Faithful at our tailgate. It was a very innocent event, by ALL parties involved. Granted, it was a VERY small fine, but my point is, yes, the NCAA will punish, even for VERY MINOR infractions. No school, no matter how big they are (or think they are), should be above the rules. PERIOD.

Weren't both of them aquitted since there was no drug residue found in the pipe and it had just been used to smoke tobacco and didn't both players pass the subsequent drug test? Sorry I was asking for current players that have committed actual crimes, not just been arrested on assumptions. Only one I can think of off the top of my head is Doug Worthington. When you have a team of over 100 players counting the walk-ons that seems like a pretty good percentage are doing the right things and it seems like the incidents have gone way down the last four or five years which indicates progress to me.
I didn't know college coaches were still responsible for their players after they left school? I guess that makes pretty much every college coach ever a failure since there's always guys that make mistakes after leaving college.

Ohio State Player Charged With DUI
04-30-2009 5:05 AM

(Franklin County, OH) -- An Ohio State tailback was charged with DUI following a traffic stop on Tuesday. Court records show that after Bo DeLande was pulled over for making an illegal left turn, he was given a breath test and his blood alcohol level was measured at .133. The Ohio legal limit is .08. DeLande, 20, is due to be arraigned Monday in Franklin County Municipal Court.

BGSUKid... its called character... the actions of an individual define them as people in our society. The actions before, during, and after their time in the public eye reflect directly or indirectly upon the institutions in which they interact. Marc Dann is a piece of crap, and a terrible person, and I look at the democratic party in the state of Ohio less favorably than I did before because of his actions.

You are defined by the company you keep, and OSU has had more then there fair share of players committing crimes. Does everyone break the law? I know I do everyday... when Im driving 30 in a 25 or 75 in a 65 mph zone. Do I think under age possession or consumption is a big deal? Absolutely not.

What is a big deal, is when individuals believe they can beat up their fellow student. When individuals believe it is alright to get behind the wheel of a car and drive drunk. When individuals believe that they can steal from other students.

It would take one time to have a kid's scholarship yanked from a player for players to wake the hell up. The problem is that this would reverberate through the collegiate recruiting process like the 3 Mile Island melt down. A kid isn't allowed to make a mistake is what will come up, time and again. the problem is, is that this mistake, was the first time they were caught, not the first time they did this.

Alex Boone... was drunk well throughout his college career, he was probably drunk most of his senior year, but because he was "great", he got a free pass. Then he goes out and embarrasses himself getting ready for the NFL Draft. Well Alex was a buckeye before, he acted like this then, he is acting like an idiot now, and more than likely he is going to do it again. People rarely change their behavior pattern, because it isn't easy to do so.
