Um, yeah, Browns waived Smith today.

I was never even able to find out for sure if Smith was actually SIGNED as an UDFA or if he was brought in on a tryout basis. I think he was actually signed, but I wasn't sure.

Either way this past weekend was the rookie minicamp and if he was signed and released then they probably wanted the roster spot to sign one of the guys that was in on a tryout basis.

Personally I didn't think he had NFL talent and was a longshot to see the start of training camp, let alone survive the first wave of cuts. Sucks that he only made it through rookie camp, but at least now he's got the opportunity to seek other chances with other teams?

Good luck to him, but he's definitely fighting an uphill battle.

How many MAC alums are in the NFL at DB? WMU just had a safety drafted early, but he's just a freak of nature type of athlete.

OU just had a DB drafted pretty high (2nd round I think)...

Yes they did. Which is about 4-5 rounds higher than most expected him to be taken. The Raiders never cease to surprise.

Dwight Smith (Akron) is still in the league, I believe.
