Ladies and Germs, i was digging through some old stuff and came up with lo' and behold...3 issues of the "Section A Screamer". This is great stuff and brings back a ton of memories...here's some of the hilights from one of them.
Heckling is a dirty job, and we're just the guys to do it!!
Lawrence Dyck...this is your Life!!!
There are times in the affairs of heckling our opponents, when one player
by his actions, or his mere placement in relation to Section A, endears himself to all of our hearts. Our pal Larry is just such a man. Through no fault of his own, he has become the latest in a long string of LSS netminders to be mercelessly thrashed by verbal abuse. Tonight we revue the major events of Larry's life..remember, it's all in fun, but we come to bury you Larry, not to praise you.
Highlights of Lawrence Dyck's life
age: 6 weeks...Larry's first stint on the ice...he sticks
6 months...Spring thaw...Larry freed
2 years...first spoken word.."OOPS"
3 years...rushed to hospital...can't catch breath
4 years...force fed swiss cheese by parents
5 years...frightened by mother's collander, to this day still possesses
inordinate fear of draining pasta
6 years...Larry works on goalie techniques during Summer months,
almost drowns
7 years...parents tie pork chop around his neck, dog plays with him
8 years...sets Little League record as catcher, 18 passed balls (in two
innings)
9 years...allowance suspended, money keeps slipping through his
fingers
10 years...Squirt hockey goalie, father buys a case of Life Savers
11 years...finally catches something...a cold
12 years...family move fails...Larry finds them
13 years...first recruited by BGSU as a replacement for Brian
Stankiewicz, "at least he shows up.." says Ron Mason
14 years...first date, Eunice Gumpworth, Larry takes her skating.
Eunice beats him with a 30 foot wrister, glove side high,
2:48 into their date...Larry hides in closet for 3 months
14 1/2 years...Eunice signed by the Chicago Blackhawks...Bobby Hull
jumps to the WHA...Bobby Orr retires

town just to find red lights

18 years...tries out for H.S. Football team, takes 15 minutes to
recover a fumble
18 1/2 years...first game at Bowling Green
19 years...comes out of 6 month coma
20 years...second word spoken, "HELP!!!!"
21 years...final visit to Bowling Green, all problems now behind him
NEXT WEEK: Jonesy gets a real job...a short profile of "The Cruiser"...
Special Report - Don Woods, Man of Steel
for all you younger fans, Larry Dyck (honest to god, that was his name) was a goalie for Lake Superior who we used to razz the hell out of. And the best part was, we usually got some sort of rise out of him, it was great!! And in all actuality, Larry was a pretty decent goaltender...just not against us!! By the way, if anyone would like a copy of these, just let me know. I'll be more than glad to get you them. They are from the '82-'83 season.
GO FALCONS!!!!
Alright all you old "Section A'ers"...

Both were classics, IMO, and that's what matters. There is no where near the level of imagination going on today as there was then. When the program reaches that prominance again, maybe that will change. Who knows. But if F___ Montoya is the best that section E can come up with then the students have a long way to go. We may never reach that level again.

Maybe it would help if we had some transplants from other sections come over and give us an example. I am a student, and I also despise the profanity. But all I seem to be hearing is how bad we are in section E. Frist of all, quit generalizing that it is the whole section because it is not! Perhaps instead of just complaining about SOME in the section you could come over and help teach the tradition. Why does a tradition take hold? Because older generations teach the younger ones. It's a long process and not something that can be cone in just one game or month. It's a season long process. Those of us who are trying could use some help! It takes a village folks, help us out.

I was not meaning to imply that everyone in section E is guilty, however, pick another section to sit in for a game and you decide where the majority is coming from. You also have to realize that most of the old section A'ers are few and far between in the arena since most were students at the time and have since moved on. Yes, some of us are still around, but not enough. If you detest the profanity in section E, relocate to section A and start the tradition back up. The reason Sections A and H started was simple: you get to play with the goalie's head for two periods instead of just one. Section E formed for the same reason when York switched sides after the expansion.....section A died and section E became fragmented due to the downslide of the program. When Buddy switched back, unfortunately Section A didn't resurect itself. Section A can be reborn if the students will switch back....most of us old timers still sit over near section A hoping for just that.

BGFan, I didn't say that you implied that everyone was guilty in section E, but others have. I have sat in other sections and I know where a majority, but not all, of the profanity comes from. But that is no reason to give up on section E and move to Section A. Lets try to get both sections going. I would love to see all 4 sections on the corners full of BG fans getting under the masks of every opposing goalie that comes into the Ice Arena. Lets work to get that going. That will really bring the place back. I can ony imagine what it was like before I got there.
