Which sadly likely means it was against very low caliber competition. Its a crap shoot taking guys like that but sometimes its the only way of stealing a great talent.

I think it's because no one can spell his name correctly.

The university release has it spelled "DaVon" (with a D), which led me to this paragraph:

http://highmajorscoop.com/2009/05/bowli ... igh-flyer/

Though even that story spells his name "Devon". He's "long and bouncy".

Apparently, it may be "Devon" and he had a scholarship offer from some other school in NW Ohio.

You know the quote about assuming Falconboy. Never assume it makes a ... well you know the rest. The kid plays in the Public School League of Detroit. There are not too many other conferences in the whole country with better competition then that. They also played a strong nonconference schedule. I said in another thread that they lost to Michigan Class A champ Pershing twice and one of those was close. The newspapers the other day indicated Detroit Finney, Haynes school, will close after the school year but all students will go to another unused building and name it Finney. All other starters were underclassman.

Now, I still don't know why this kid is flying under the radar but it wasn't because of the competition.

Everything that the U released said it was for next year. That puts us one over in schollies again. A couple of those links say it is for 2010......This guy is an enigma.

Here is what I have for 2009-2010

1 Jakubowski 6-2 180 Jr. Brown 6-2 So. Crawford 5-6 Fr
2 Groves 6-4 200 JR. (RS) Goins 6-3 204 Jr Kraus 6-2 185 Fr
3 Knight 6-7 210 R-Jr. Thomas 6-6 So Calhoun 6-7 Fr
4 Marschall 6-7 235 Sr. McCelroy 6-7 Fr Haynes 6-7 Fr
5 Polk 6-9 280 Sr. Larson 6-9 245 Sr.

Potential happenings
1. Haynes is a 2010 recruit
2. Is it possible Knight does not have a schollie this year?
3. Goins or Groves did not get a schollie as was expected for them.
4. Calhoun did not qualify.

I have no clue or any inside knowledge of the situation, but this would be my first guess. Anytime you take the partial qualifiers I take a wholly pessimistic view of them. For every Steve Wright that eventually qualifies and plays there are 2-3 Reggie Harwells who never wear a uniform.

I hope Calhoun qualifies and contributes, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he never participated in a BG game.

If he is the one who was having problems with grades all last year then I am pretty sure we will not see him with the team. I was just told last week by someone close to the team that his grades were really bad again. But I guess we have to wait till the official word to really know.
Go Falcons!

We could create a pretty solid team of guys who could not qualify academically but could play some solid basketball. Calhoun was supposed to be a stud.
