Based on the condition of the OUR Ice Arena we are lucky to have a quality facility (by all appearances) so close for one home game. Lets hope this is just an annual trip rather than a necessity while our "decades of neglect" home ice is under repair.NWLB wrote:In the end, you are almost certainly right. I also don't know how many people who are fans of the pro team in Toledo will ever come down south to see BG play. Plus the game turns into a glorified home game for Michigan types, and UT wannabes.
I proudly chose to be a Falcon and a Falcon I will remain until the end.
Like in football...Cleveland Browns Stadium for one home game against OSU, or Ford Field for one home game against UM. No matter how you look at it, it's not a home game.FalconTurf wrote:Based on the condition of the OUR Ice Arena we are lucky to have a quality facility (by all appearances) so close for one home game. If the Ice Arena was sold out for every home game against a team for a few years in a row I could possibly see a move like this justified. But it's not. There's no reason to move it.

The reasons I see to maintain a working agreement with the folks in FrogTown are (1) if we wish to get a holiday tournament rolling or (2) need a facility while our facility experiences an unforeseen shutdown or planned shutdown we are familar with the facility and already working with the folks up north.pdt1081 wrote:Like in football...Cleveland Browns Stadium for one home game against OSU, or Ford Field for one home game against UM. When Mr. Vivian and crew are done this may no longer be an issue.
I'll agree to disagree on this one. Cleveland Browns stadium on the other hand was neat one time to have good seats in the monster but certainly I prefer any seat at the Doyt from here on.

i cannot believe what im reading from bg followers complaining that this is a "home" game for michigan. This is a great thing for the hockey program which is in such desperate times right now. I for one and have talked to several bg faithful are all excited to see the falcon hockey program compete in toledo..... I know there are alot of UM supporters in the northern ohio area but that does not mean they are all UM hockey supporters.... I know several people who are michigan FOOTBALL fans and never really pay attn to the other UM sports.. This does not mean BG fans will be outnumbered at this game..... I forsee many neutral or local fans taking in the game and rooting for BG being from this area.... Overall I think that this opportunity to play at the new downtown sports arena is only positive for the program.
I had really hoped that this would happen and only see positives ... 1) chance to expand the fan base, 2) give the kids a chance to play in a brand new facility, 3) give the team some neutral ice experience. I hope that a working relationship can be developed with the LC Arena, with the result being at least one annual game, perhaps a holiday tournament or maybe even hosting a regional tournament some year (though like the Frozen Four, these seem to be going to bigger arenas ... not sure what limits the NC$$ has put on regionals these days ... anyone know?).
Didn't the Fort Wayne arena recently host an NCAA regional?
