Harris mention in the Plain Dealer

Post by ZiggyZoomba »

I thought this was pretty interesting and pretty telling of the respect Josh has earned in his short time in the NFL:

No hard feelings:

The Ravens were not caught off guard when the Browns signed QB Josh Harris off their practice squad.

Before accepting the Browns' minimum salary offer, agent Joel Segal informed the Ravens what was going on. Harris felt he had a better opportunity of playing sooner in Cleveland.

"It's all about opportunity," Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome said. "I talked to Josh at length. He saw an opportunity to be a starter [next season] in Cleveland."

The Ravens selected Harris in the sixth round in April. They had three quarterbacks ahead of him - starter Kyle Boller, backup Anthony Wright and Kordell Stewart. Boller is the long-term starter, and Wright is signed through 2005.

"We really liked him, and we think he has a real good future," Newsome said. "In preseason, he did a very good job of handling the situations he faced, like playing in the fourth quarter when there can be chaos. He proved he belonged in this league."

Newsome said he believed Harris, of Bowling Green, could compete for a starting job eventually.
