I really like Turner's confidence. I see a great competition for the QB job in 2 years between Omar and Turner if they both progress. Either way, we're going to have two excellent quarterbacks for a couple years.

I "really like" his confidence, too... but I LOVE his attitude! Recognizing the class with which Josh carried himself and picking up on that to emulate. If A.T. is a fraction of the man Josh was/is off the field, we all win. (Especially if he reaches his goal of matching Josh *on* the field as well! :D )

Let's hope Omar can be the real deal THIS year. ::Grin::

Though isn't it great to already be talking about a successor? We are so close to having a real program here!

I think the real program is here. Its just a matter of sustaining it with the right people.

What's close is having and OUTSTANDING program here, in all aspects. Just a matter of doing what the song says and "rolling along"!!! :D

Not to bring up bad memories, but we all felt the same back when Blackney could do no wrong. We won the conference and two bowl games and then White graduated. While I think the team we have now is better than those teams (and they were damned good), the transition from Harris to Jacobs is crucial.

I agree with you...it was good though that Jacobs got a few snaps last season. I know they might not have been at crucial points in the game but he did show that he could handle the offense. When he played he played well and that should give him confidence out on the field. The only thing I'm worried about is having his first start come against Oklahoma at Oklahoma. But it sounds like he is up for the challenge which I like to hear.

I can't imagine Brandon making the enormous mistakes in recruiting that Blackney made. The 'program' hasn't officially arrived yet, but I have more confidence in this GB than the last GB.

Yeah, if you have to schedule a team like SEMS, why couldn't we have put them BEFORE Oklahoma?!?! Not that our guys didn't play their hearts out, but I believe the dismantling of EKU in the first game last year was crucial to beating Purdue.

Speaking of the EKU game though, I have a funny story. My father was leaving the game and he called me on my cell phone while I was still up at the top of the stands. He asked when I was leaving so we could meet for dinner and I said I wanted to see one more touchdown. At that momment I saw Jacobs toss the ball up in the air and I told him to hold on for a minute. Derrick Lett caught the ball with no defender anywhere close for the 66 yard touchdown. I then proceeded to tell my dad that I was ready to leave then.

Turner is really big. The Daunte Culpepper comparisons are apt. Look at him:

As Lee Corso says in my favorite game, "I agree, 100% with you."

We had a great season last year. We had a great team last year. We do not, repeat do not have a great program. A great program sustains over the course of time, sustains through player transitions (Harris to Jacobs, Hewitt to Burkes) and coaching changes (UM to Brandon) with consistently excellent performance. This year will be a test for the program. A successful year may mean we're ready to make the next step.

Before I get flamed, let me say that I'm expecting us to make that step, boldly. I think Brandon is the right man for the job and, before the decade is out, BG will be the "mid-sized major that could."

I dropped by the Doyt last week to let my 2.5 year old daughter run around in the grass outside the south end zone. While I envisioned what the new scoreboard and SAC were going to look like once they were in place, I realized that we are at a very crucial juncture in the history of BG athletics. If all goes as planned, we'll be a program that can compete nationally for players and attention. We won't be USC or (gasp) OSU, but we can sure as heck be in the top 25 or on the cusp year in and out.

If things don't work out and we experience another Gary Blackneyesque meltdown, we're going to look back at these years and wonder what went wrong. We're going to look at our sub 10,000 crowds and wonder why we tried in the first place.

People, we have to do this. I really don't want to go back to the year 2000...

And it all comes down to marketing. BG must make an effort to get butts in the seats, simple as that. I'm a long way from NW Ohio and, to be honest, feel like I have to do most of the work in arranging to see a game. The University needs to make more of an effort to get people to the Doyt.

Heck, I'm planning on flying in for the Western game (with a 7-year-old future letterman in tow) and going into the city (Philly) to see the Falcons avenge a loss to Temple the last time they visited.

More marketing. Better marketing. Effective marketing.

The University prides itself on the quality of its Business programs. Let's see some results!

In fact, here's a great project for a marketing senior or MBA candidate - create a comprehensive marketing plan for BG Football.

I have no complaints about BGSU's marketing at all.

They've put a fantastic new radio network in place. They are getting our games on televisions -- and when they aren't on ESPN, they've got cable companies picking up our home-grown telecasts.

They are bringing in a videoboard, which will vastly improve fans' experience while at games. They are painting the rails, which will make the stadium look quite a bit better.

Compared to all of that, whether or not Harris had a Heisman site is a very small thing for me.

Look, if Bowling Green would have gone 14-0 last year, Harris would have won the Heisman. The Web site would have been nice -- but I can see why BGSU didn't bother. They have limited resources, and the Web site wouldn't have been the best use of those resources.

Akron, on the other hand, needs to pimp Frye as hard as possible. Their team isn't very good, and they need to give locals a reason to show up.
